| Teeth Brushing IMPOSSIBLE How the heck do you guys get your furbabies to let you brush thier teeth?? I use to do it for Abby when I first got her, but she just acts like I'm killing her and throws a huge fit, making it nearly impossible. Should I just have someone hold her down until she gets use to it?? I hate doing that to her, but I want her to have a healthy mouth. Is it ok to just have the vet do her annual teeth cleaning, but be just as hygenic? I tried these dental bones, but they just made her poop white and paste-y (yuck)

| I know it's hard! I use the softest brush I can get & it has a very small head on it. If you use an enzematic paste, it works on contact with the teeth. I believe it is called Petrodex. I sometimes put it on my finger & do it. Their mouths are so small. Try lifting the sides of the mouth & start at the back. They will pull away but be persistant. Not too hard though. You gotta be quick. They act like your killing them. I know cause mine does it to me. BTW, if you only let the vet do it, they have to put them under to perform the cleaning. I am not for that. |

| I use Petrodex and baby toothbrush-as soft as you can find. Siu Pao tolerates brushing teeth after a year of doing it. He will run to his bed and lie down annd wait for me to start brushing when he sees me preparing his toothbrush. I just started out with putting some Petrodex on to the toothbrush and have him lick it and praise him lots after for the first few days. Then I have him lie down in his bed and lift his 'lip' and brush one side and then turn him over to the other side and continue to brush. I used to have my husband hold him but it didn't work well. It works well when I am all calm and acts like I am very confident and sure and he is all comfortable in his bed.

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | First, get them used to you putting your finger in their mouth. No brush. No toothpaste. If they don't like that, find a toothpaste that they like the taste of. I use petrodex poultry flavor. Put a little on your finger and rub it on their front teeth for a second. Don't try to brush. Do that every day for a week or so, rubbing a little longer each day. Then get one of those finger brushes. Put a little on that and scrub the front teeth. The next day, scrub the sides. Eventually, you should be able to scrub front, sides, tops, bottoms. We do it every day. Don't give up.

| Petzlife is suppose to be good too. You can get little rubber finger brushes that fit over your finger to brush their teeth. It's easier then a tootbrush.

| You might try doing a small area each night. Eventually she will get used to the routine. I use an oral B baby toothbrush and it just fits in their mouth. I also highly recommend Petzlife oral gel. Together with regular brushing, this keeps their teeth white and clean. Don't give up!

| I've also heard of some type of spray. Do you spray along with brushing, or can it take the place?
