| Warning: Rabies Shot Rabvac 3 Hello If You Are Reading This Beconcerned! I Am Here To Talk About The Rabies Vaccine Called "rabvac 3." This Vaccine Was Administered To My Yorkie And The Results Are Horrifying! If You Would Like To See A Picture You Can Email Me And Ask. The Results: My Dog Was Left With A Permanant Bald Spot 2 Inches In Diameter! The Spot Is Painful To The Touch, He Goes Outside And Gets Wind Burned Instantly! And The Results Are Permanant! I Am Outraged!! If Anyone Has Had This Happen Please Notify Me Immediatley! I Am Interested In Getting Together A Class Act To Bring This Shot Down! I Was Not Warned Of The Results And The Funny Part Is : There Is An Alternative To The Shot! My Vet Knew This And Still Administered My Dogs The Shot. Then When I Brought Them In To See What Was Going On!!!! They Told Me They Would Surgically Remove My Dogs Skin For Free So They Could See What It Was Caused From!! I Told Them No Way Is My Dog Going In For Anethesia! And I Didnt Pay $$115.00 To Permanantly Give My Dog A Bald Spot. He Was Not An Experiment!! This Is How I Feel! Like An Experiment!! The Shot Was Already Recalled Once! Dont Let It Happen To You!!! |

Yorkie Yakker | Beyond Vaccination Yahoo group There is a Vaccine Protocol on this group recommended by a veterinarian for those who want minimum vaccines for their dogs. I argued with our vet about the dosage, for previous vaccines, recommended for all dogs regardless of size and weight. That doesn't make sense to me and as I read the reactions of dogs, I wonder why they keep pushing the same dosage. I'm supposed to take Gigi back to get another series of shots because I neglected to take her back after 3 weeks. The good thing is they do offer titer tests which I'm planning to get. By the way, this vet on the yahoo group recommends titers. |

| THE COST OF MY ENTIRE VET VISIT WAS $115. NOT THE RABIES SHOT. THE REASON I AM OUTRAGED IS BECAUSE WHEN I BROUGHT MY DOGS IN FOR FURTHER TREATMENT DUE TO THIER SHOT, THE VET TOLD ME THAT I COULDN'T PROVE THAT IT WAS FROM THE SHOT. i OWN 2 SMALL DOGS ONE BEING A YORKIE AND ONE BEING A SHORT HAIRED CHIHUAHUA. BOTH DOGS HAVE THE EXACT SAME MARK ON THE SAME LEG. THE VET SAID,"WELL HOW DO WE KNOW ITS NOT A BUG BITE?" THEN I MENTIONED GETTING AN ATTORNEY, FORGET THAT!! THEY REFUSED TO TREAT THEM AT ALL!! AND THE HOLE TIME I WAS DEALING WITH THE ASSISTANT VET NOT THE MEDICAL DOCTOR WHO GAVE THEM THE SHOT. SHE WOULD NOT COME OUT AND TALK TO ME. YOU COULD DEFFINATELY TELL THEY WERE HIDDING SOMETHING. I WAS NOT WARNED OF THE SIDE EFFECTS. I WAS NOT TOLD BY MY VET THAT THERE WAS AN ALTERNATIVE! IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE WHO IS A VICTIM OF THIS, PLEASE CONTACT ME IMMEDIATLEY. I WOULD LIKE TO GET TOGETHER A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT! THIS VACCINE HAS BEEN RECALLED ONCE DUE TO DOGS GETTING RABIES EVEN WITH THE SHOT! THEY STILL DO NOT HAVE THE VACCINE RIGHT! DONT LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU! Last edited by mado2006; 04-10-2007 at 08:50 AM. Reason: ADDING ANOTHER PICTURE |

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | I am so very sorry that this happened to your baby. Yes, bald spots can sometimes occur when giving a Rabies shot - but isn't very "common" as it doesn't happen very often, however....your vet SHOULD have told you about this. Also, I can't see the pictures very well - can you re-size them and make them bigger? They are quite tiny

| Mojo had a dark spot come up that made his hair "go away" in that spot...it was the same spot where his "old" vet would give him his shots. When I asked his "old" vet about it, he just said it was due to the shots and not worry about it. Well....you can imagine, I never went back to that vet and his new vet said that it was very rare that this would happen from the shots, so we went ahead and and it removed, stitched up and had a biopsy done on it. Sure enough, it was from the rabies shot. Wow! That was two years ago and Mojo has never had a problem w/ the vaccines since. The spot...well, you can't even tell there was ever a problem. There is no dark spot, the hair is all grown the same length and the rest of the hair, there is no lump and the scar area (well, where the stitches were) is smooth. I think if we hadn't of had it removed, the dark spot would have just gotten bigger and more hair would have been lost. For us, seeing a new vet and having that spot removed was the best thing for us to do. Again, we have never had a problem w/ this since. And I wasn't really mad at the other vet because I know w/ any meds or shots, there are some sort of side effects....my pay back for him, was that I never went to him again and I always let people now about our experience....word of mouth travels far! We felt that paying for a second opinion and having it taken care of was worth it (in our eyes anyway)....after all, by doing that, that meant that Mojo would be handsome again, free of a nasty looking spot and healthy!

| wow! thanks for all of the great input guys!! i am taking everything in! i was quite concerned when the spots appeared! when my dogs would go outside, they would look like they were in pain due to their spot. the wind was horrible to it and it seemed like it almost itched! In June it will be a year that this has happened to my babies! at first the spots started out the size of a dime and only grew bigger! now they are the size of a half dollar. they dont seem to be getting any bigger. i noticed instantly when they would grow and i would call the vet and get no response as to why this would happen. i thought it was strange that this was such a rare case but yet hm.... i have 2 dogs and it happen to both of them?? i dont think that makes it so rare! about a month and half ago i noticed the spots stopped growing completely!! if you want more picture i will have to email them to you because they get really blurry if i try to resize them. |

| I have just checked my animals passports and 2 were given Quantum rabies vacc(in UK) the other 2 had Nobivac rabies vacc(in France) all 4 were fine. But funnily last week i got the dogs regular vaccines done and argued with my vet about the amount they wanted to give Pippa as they were giving her the same as my lab, now my lab is 35kgs and Pippa is 8lb so logic would tell you the lab needs more???? I have read that some vets recommend that small animals only have this done every 3 years compared with the bigger dogs being done every year. Well the up shot was they said 'in France we believe they should have the same amount and every year too' Thoughts on this would be appreciated.

| I feel the same.....and have heard so many different things about vaccines on small dogs. (or any dog for that matter). I remember once there was a discussion about it here on YT and I have chatted w/ several other people regarding vaccines and pets. Some people believe that their pets do NOT need any vaccines...some vets/states only require some vaccines every 2-3 years, some vets/people say that all pets HAVE to have all vaccines....on and on.....regarding the amount...well, I think that common sense would tell anyone that a small dog (for example) that weighs 5lbs would NOT need the same dosage as a dog (for example) that weighs 100lbs. I mean really...to me, it seems that a large dosage like that for a small dog could do some damage and for a big dog, if he had a dose for a 5lb dog, it would pretty much be like he didn't get anything at all.....or I would think. Course, I know several people that feel the same about vaccines for their children too...not just vaccines but other medications...so, I guess it is a personal preference and what you can work out w/ your vet.

| I agree, small dogs equal a smaller dose, big dogs equal a bigger dose. I think what happened, the more i look into it, that when my dogs were given their vaccines, the dose what too much for their little bodies. and i think the vaccine stayed on top of their skin! killing the hair. that would make sense to me! i dont see why this had to happen. I dont show my dogs, but i do breed them. and to have people come and look at my dogs and see that spot on them(well the short haired chihuahua). i think that that would make them wonder what kind of an owner i was. it looks like something terrible has happened to them and this the scar from it! I think i have reached the point where i am learning to except the fact that this is permanant. I just dont understand why this had to happen to me? we all know the costs of a yorkie and i just dont know why a vet wouldnt just come and say out right that there is a possibility of blad spots! or the fact that i didnt even have to take that chance of risking a blad spot and i could of used an alternative! | This has happened to my two chihuahuas also. Do you know for sure that the dark bald patches are permanent? On one dog it seems to actually have gotten bigger and they had their shot four months ago. |

| rabvac I'm about to take my 9 year old jack russell/spaniel mix to the vet. She has a quarter sized lump/sore at the spot where her rabvac vaccination was administered. I know some time has passed since you posted your warning, but I just came across it doing research. What became of your case? I wish I had done some research regarding vaccinations before I took her in for hers, but she's had no issues with them before. |
