| Liver Shunt Pups needed for research at Cornell Sharon Center, a researcher at Cornell University, needs blood samples of any breed dogs that are known to have or had a liver shunt. They are close to getting the markers identified that will help to know which parents of puppies that could pass along the genetic marker for liver shunt. This study does not include dogs with MVD (microvascular dysplasia). Cornell needs a blood sample from any breed dog that is known to have this condition. Sharon asks for the dog owners to contact her direct if they would like to participate in this study. She will then work directly with their veterinarian to get the blood sample and then have it shipped to her. She is hopeful that the veterinarians will donate their professional services and participation to help in this study. The contact is Sharon Center, 607-253-3060, sac6@cornell.edu, she will return calls and emails as quickly as she can, these are her work contact info. Permission to crosspost: please contact Sharon direct for any information regarding this study.

| What great information. I think it would be wonderful for anyone who's dog has this condition to participate. This could save so much suffering in the future and I'm sure breeders who are responsible and do genetic testing would love to be able to check for this trait. The way I read this is that they just need a blood sample which could be obtained by your local vet and shipped, so participants could theoretically come from all over the world, correct?

| THANKS for posting this, Linda!!! Thank God, I dont have this issue, but sooooo many of our members do .....this will really help them genotype this disease...I know Dr. Tobias is also close to getting these markers...I wonder if the two studies are running together....I will also give this to my vet....I have no idea if they have any patients with this....what about another breed other than a Yorkie...or is the study specific to Yorkies only? | I think this is great because it may help determine that specific bloodlines in specific areas are carriers and should be retired/sterilized and that new bloodlines might have to be introduced. I think this could really strengthen bloodlines of many breeds. I encourage all who own dogs with liver shunt to participate and spread the word to other breed owners, too.
