| Bathing your puppy! I'm new here, I have a 9week old Yorkie and was wondering if anyone knew when I can start bathing my puppy? And what's the best shampoo out there? |

| Im think that unless your baby is really in need of a bath, you might wait. I waited until my baby had most of her puppy shots and it was summer time. Tiny puppys can get chilled easially. As for shampoo, there are several on the forum that sell very good shampoos. My baby is almost 2yrs and I still use puppy shampoo and conditioner. By the way WELCOME~! Check out the library for some great information and there is also a list of several members that sell beds, shampoo and clothes. |

| Just make sure the room you bathe in is warm, and have warm towels ready. Use a tearless shampoo formulated for dogs. There are many great brands to choose from. I prefer things found online, or if you are lucky enough to have a great dog boutique nearby. One of my favorites is Bio-Groom. If you email them through their website and request samples of their tearless Fluffy Puppy shampoo, they will send it to you quickly. Enjoy your puppy!

| I've seen people bathe their Yorkies in the sink, But Ruger is so big I bathe him in the tub. I just use one of those detachable shower heads on a hose and bring it down to his level. It took a little while, but he now seems to enjoy it and sometimes he will jump in the shower with me. I use some stuff called Fluffy Puppy that is easy to apply and rises out clean. Somebody gave me some expensive Italian shampoo that was very thick and didn't work too well with his long hair. And, as others have already said, have a thick towel ready and keep him warm. |

| I'd just wash off his dirty parts with soap & water & save the bath until he is older. I hate to bathe a really young puppy like that.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | That's really young, I think I would just use a warm damp cloth and wipe him. Go slow, the main thing now is you don't want him to be scared. Always test the water on the inside of your forearm, just like you would a human baby. Dogs, especially puppies cannot handle hot water, so try for warm water, not hot. The room should be warm, no drafts, and I heat Joey's towel in the microwave for a minute. You can't have any wet spots on the towel or it will overheat and burn, so check the towel before you wrap dog in it. I pad the counter with lots of towels, and gave Cheerios as treats, to help him get use to the bathing routine. Joey's breeder told me to do everything matter of factly, don't let them know that you're scared, hold them with certainty.
