| Our Yorkie has 4 loose teeth_ Help Took Nikki to the vet today because we discovered over the weekend that her lower front teeth were loose. The vet wants to pull the teeth tomorrow. We've agreed to do it but very reluctantly. Anyone have a similar experience? any advice is welcomed. |

| Edie lost her top 4 teeth about 4 years ago when she was 6. I was upset about it, but the vet told me she would never miss them, and he was right. And since they didn't show when she "smiled" anyway, you can't tell unless you make her open her mouth. I saved the teeth. They are tiny. These little dogs are notorious for teeth problems. I asked the vet what I could have done differently, and he told me "nothing". I make sure she gets regular dental cleanings. And lately I have added "plaque off" to her daily teeth cleaning regime. I would not worry too much about it. Your vet might prescribe antibiotics following the removal, in order to prevent bacterial infection from traveling via the bloodstream to other organs. Make sure you use all of the pills. |

Make sure they do blood work and urinalysis before going under anesthesia and look at the link on anesthesia in library on here. Good luck and do not worry my demi has no front teeth top or bottom and she does fine. I was in tears over but she was only 4 so I learned the hard way and she did not have much tartar either as i was using petzlife gel. i prefer a bc dentist myself for dentals as the vet does the dental and many times at a vets office a tech is doing it. I prefer the dentist especially with extractions but go with what you are comfortable that is just what i do with mine. Many on here get their dogs dentals done at vets office. on this website below there is a FAQ so this will answer some of your questions too Dogandcatdentist.com - Veterinary Dentistry in Los Angeles Periodontal disease runs in toy breeds Last edited by dwerten; 05-31-2010 at 03:02 PM.

Thank you so much. We feel much better about our decision after reading this. I am sick thinking about my baby being put to sleep and how she will feel afterwards. We have always brushed her teeth ( She loves her battery powered toothbrush) and there is no sign of plaque on her teeth. This was so unexpected. What is a bc dentist? We live in a very small community and I have never heard of this.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | My Pixie lost 7 teeth at age 3 and last month 2 more due to bad gum disease. She does fine. Nikki who is 15 had all his teeth removed in November and eats kibble still (his choice). I thought his tongue would hang out all the time but it doesn't at all. My vet puts mine on antibiotics 3 days prior to dental and 5 days after. Try not to worry, she will be fine.

| Thank you all for your responses. We have decided to go ahead and have the teeth removed. We have brushed her teeth since she was a pup ( she loves her battery powered toothbrush) so this is quite a shock for us. Her teeth look quite clean. I am very worried. She is my baby annd I can't bear the thought of her being put asleep and not feeling well, but I don't want problems later on. Thanks again everyone! |

| She will be fine. Sometimes for the Canine teeth if they are loose, they will do a deep cleaning, and then stitch them up tight. THe small front ones will not be missed. Just tell people she plays Small Dog Hockey. Our 13 year old Yorkie has the fronts removed, and the Canines tightened. Antibiotics for 5 days afterward and pre-blood work. She was back home in the afternoon and her old self the next day. |
