| I read bad things about Banfield. Make sure you know how much the plan covers. I haven't found an insurance good enough to get yet.

| I use Petplan, but in the UK. We have had a broken leg and LP on insurance and everything has been paid without question and promptly. It's a bit expensive compared to others, but I keep it for peace of mind. I think they are the same company and would recommend them for sure. |

| I don't have pet insurance but I have the Banfield wellness plan. I think it is good for the first year or you have a dog you will need to take in for visits a lot. The first year it takes care of spay/neuter costs then every year you have it the vacs and all office visits.

| I reviewed the Banfield plan, and unless your pup has unusual medical needs, it really costs the same as not being on their plan. Also I worry because they will try to entice you to purchase things you don't need or want for your Yorkie, and may cause more harm than good. ie: do not get vaccines for giardia, or the one for dental health. They are too new on the market and have not been evaluated long enough. And a friend had her Yorkies vaccinated with the dental vaccine and they all had problems from it.

| I have the Banfield wellness program. I'm not 100% happy with it, because its just that..a wellness program that covers any and all office visits, dental cleaning w/anesthesia, and vaccines. It does not cover emergencies. I learned after going to Banfield that they have gotten a bad reputation. I've happened to have great experiences at my Banfield office, I like the vet and the pet nurses are super good to me and Max. For example, when Max had an ear infection, I had the hardest time getting his ear drops in twice a day. The office manager let me bring him in twice a day for the length of the treatment so the nurses could do it for me and never charged me! I've been thinking about getting a policy to cover emergencies. Can anyone recommend a plan for only emergencies?

I did referred them to a few people that have our puppies, as i knew the local vet and i loved her. Some people love it, others do not like it that much. I go to a local vet my self, but i have used Banfield many times for shots and routine things as they take walk ins... I would say, put it all in paper and make the math. I know the plan is very well worthy if your puppy will need to be spayed/neutered... for the first year it is an awesome option in my area. Also i think you should look into know the vet that will be seeing your puppy. Banfield may have a great plan, or awfull it depends on one's opinion, but if you are uncomfortable with the vet it will never be worthy. The other way around is also true. you may not like Banfield at all, but if you trust and like the vet working there , why not give it a try? XOXO

| I like Pet Plan myself. I got it only for emergencies. I got the $200 ded., covered at %100 after that. I really like that it covers LP and other genetic issues, which some don't. The way Bonnie runs and jumps, I am really scared she is going to get hurt. Also if your dog is lost or stolen, it will cover reward cash, etc |

Since this post, I've had a few experiences with Banfield that I am not happy with. I have since gotten a different pet plan and a different vet. I'll be paying for the plan until May 2010 but I'm not going back there. They are very aggressive with their medical care which I don't agree with at all.

| I have pet plan, but, fortuntely, never had to use it...They cover all "predisposed to the breed" or genetic issues, as long as though don't have them when you sign them up...But, if later on, there was an issue w/luxating patella, trachea, hips, liver, etc, that sometimes affect yorkies, it's covered...You have to fax all their records over to them, before you get the policy inplace...I think I pay a pretty high deductible, so it's just $17 for one dog a month...Peace of mind, for me... |

Thor's Human Donating Member | The link Wylies Mom posted in the Articles section is excellent. I was always kind of overwhelmed by the options of pet insurance, but it has a really good, simple analysis of I think ten major insurers. I don't even remember which one I got, it was just the one most highly recommended, and Thor is now on the gold plan. It had one very good rec that stood out for me, which is to look for insurance has good "worst case scenario" coverage, not insurance with good coverage of standard medical expenses. It's not about getting a few hundred $ a year back on annual wellness checkups, it's about coverage when your dog needs $10K of immediate surgery. |
