YT Addict | Home from spay questions please please I just got her home and had instructions from the vet, etc. They even gave her a deep cleaning on her teeth for no additional charge as well as a step-in type harness, which was nice! I just had the kind that slips over the head and snaps at the waist. I'm worried because she is wimpering and crying a little. She's only been home about an hour. They said they gave her a 24 hour pain medication, would she still feel pain though? She's also shivering I am sure it's because she's scared. I don't think this is in need to call the vet but what do you think? Are these normal things for first day home from spay surgery?

| When did she have her actual surgery? None of mine did this when they came home...I think I would call the vet.. She might just want to be held the rest of the day but the shivering is bothering me.

| It seems like the pain meds should be helping her more with the pain. Now My Jewels did shake when we brought her home but she didnt cry or whimper. I would call the vet to be safe

| My Yorkie when he got spayed he was brought home same day and was very drowzy. Not crying or whipering. He just slept it off. The next morning he was the same hyper dog. Poor little guy had to wear a bowl though for 10 days or they bite their stiches out. As soon as the 10th day came and i was ready to go to the vet to take them out, as soon as i took off the bowl he bit them out. I called the vet and told them they said its okay he did the job for them. If your baby is not drinking water even or shaking for a long time without calming down or has a fever i would go see the vet. Although that is my opinion in terms of what i would do. | Maggie was crying a wimpering like cry on the night of her surgery. I said that she need some more meds and finally got hold of the vet and they said it was okay to give her some more. Maggie quieted right down after that and was quiet the rest of the night and was much better the next morning. I would call them and ask when she was operated on and see if you can give her some meds. I am sure she is tender. Good luck.

| Hi, when a brought my little guy home from neutering and teeth cleaning a few days ago, he started shivering and panting. I called the vet and they said he was in pain and to give him some pain meds. Hope ure baby feels better soon!

YT Addict | I called and they said she probably is just scared and wanting some love attention. And when I sit on the floor she does not whimper hardly as much if at all. She quieted down now a bit, too. Just shivering. I put some little blanket on the floor and she layed down in it and I put some over her. They said the pain med is 24 hours, some are more resistant but giving them more with the kind that they gave could make her sick to her stomach. But by late tonight or tomorrow morning can give her a coated low dose aspirin with no ibuprofen. Seems to have quieted down a bit, will keep posted. Please keep telling me about your babies and how they acted right when they got home? It is comforting to read EDIT// well scratch the quieted down she got up and moved to another spot and whimpered some more.

| Ellie did that the night she got spayed. Not sure if it was pain or what, but it didn't last long. If she keeps doing it and you have made her as comfortable as possible, then I would ask the vet about giving more meds early.

If she gets sick, will make her feel even worse from vomiting maybe working the muscles that are currently sore already. So maybe waiting to give more med is not as bad as it seems. They also told me that females tend to drop in temperature from anesthesia. So that may be why she is shivering, from cold. She keeps moving to another spot, not far away but I keep moving the blanket lol.

| Keep an eye on her, sounds like she might just still be loopy, sore, and out of sorts from the operation. I know when I brought Stella home they said she may or may not need pain meds the first night, depending on how her body processes what they had given her. Sure enough, she was whimpering a bit and wouldn't move at all from her spot in her bed. I gave her pain meds later that night after she wouldn't eat (more than 12 hours after her surgery) and within an hour she was up and about long enough to scarf down a bowl of chicken and rice (wouldn't touch her kibble though) and drink some water. Then, she got cold and started shaking (her little ears were so cold!), so I wrapped her up in a soft towel like a little burrito, put her back in her bed, and she slept through the night. Just keep an eye on her, sometimes it's hard to watch them go through it but you just have to do what you can. They bounce back fast though, the worst part is over |

YT Addict | She's settling down again with the whimpering. Just moving from spot to spot every 10 or so minutes. Probably just uncomfortable. Seems to still be disoriented. The sheet they gave me says they can act this way up to 24 hours so thats good to know and not keeping me worried. I'll probably put her onesie on her when shes not as disoriented.

This is stressing me more than anything, I was surprised I even took a nap. It reminds me when we got our cat fixed. Cats don't whimper or anything but watching her trying to sit down was suspenseful. She'd almost have her butt to the floor and then bring it back up because it was sore to do that the first day. It's been raining and whatnot, and we have to go around a little bend from the complex to a 'designated' doggie area at my complex. It's not real far (maybe 10 car parking spots worth) but instead I put some newspapers on our back screened porch. She tends to go out there sometimes if we don't watch her so maybe she will utilize this now while she is allowed. I don't want to make her walk like that just yet, nor do I want her to get wet from the grass so think this is the best for now.

| Anesthesia can make a person or dog shiver. You get the chills.

| I'm sure that she'll be fine once she settles down for the night. can you give her something to fill her tummy with her meds? maybe this will help so she won't get sick? Poor baby just wants to be loved on I'm sure. do you have a heating pad that you can put under a blanket so she can lay on? or maybe throw some blankets or towels into the dryer?
