| ![]() I've never used it let alone heard of it. But it has the ingredient permethrin which is suppose to be pulled off the market because it is so toxic. It is a form of the same ingredient Hartz uses in their product that has been known to harm so many. I would get her off the medicine right away and as suggested bath her with the dawn soap. She may need treatment from the vet to help if it continues. Frontline and Advantage are the safest flea meds to use. I hope she is feeling better soon!!

| ![]() Apparently Banfield's First Shield is Vectra 3D which is made by Hartz. Scroll down a couple of paragraphs and look under Consumer Alert: Adverse Reactions from Flea Control Products - 2010-02 |

To the OP, unfortunately with my first dog I was suckered into Banfield and used First Sheild Trio on Max. It didn't work, I was still finding ticks on him.

| ![]() i found this post searching for information about FST. thought i would offer my experience after getting it from Banfield and applying it to my dog. my dog had no problem with it so far in the last 16 hours (applied at dinner time last night, it's now next day morning). she's not a yorkie, though. she's a 6 month old german shepherd puppy (~50 lbs) so i know it's not totally on topic, but in case its helpful. one thought i had seeing the reactions y'all posted is that maybe you got some of the fst on your hands and that got into your dogs mouth? ingesting it could cause problems like vomiting, i think. also, make sure you got the right dosage and applied it correctly. hope this helps. |

| ![]() I use K9 Advantix, which I know has permethrin in it, but now I'm a little concerned. I used to use Frontline Plus but last summer, he got sooo many ticks on it and even got Lymes disease. K9 Advantix is the only thing that has worked for us to keep the ticks, fleas and mosquitoes away from him... should I give Frontline another try? I just really wanna keep ticks off him, but I also don't wanna hurt him by giving him medicine with permethrin in it!

One thing permethrin can do is make dogs feel like something is crawling on them. If he isn't irritated after application, obv.. that isn't a problem. Since he is doing well on it, I'd try not to worry (haha). I just prefer to recommend other products before this one.

| ![]() I used First Shield and I haven't seen anything wrong or out of the ordinary with Magnus. *shrug* I don't know what to say, I guess it really affects different depending on the dog. But I am going to change to something else. Still deciding on which to go with though. |

| ![]() Made by Hartz and sold exclusively by Banfield just doesn't sit well with me. For toy breeds, I still prefer tried and true Advantage and Frontline. They've both been around for years. |

| ![]() I have used Banfield First Shield Trio when i first got my yorkie, Sully. He didnt have a reaction to it. I did find live ticks on him when he was on the treatment, which proves the treatment pointless. I dont recommend going to Banfield at all. This is my first dog and i felt like they took advantage of that fact. They kept trying to sell me overpriced medications/ supplements he didnt need. |

| ![]() I use Comfortis, a pill, for the 3 younger pups and Sentinel for Zipp. Personally, if any of my pup(s) were having what appeared to be a reaction to a med, I would treat to relieve the distress then look at an alternative to that particular med. Annie did not do Frontline well and it really did not work on Zack and Zeke. My pups are outside a lot and living in FL fleas and any parasite that they may carry are too common so I go the chemical route altho' not my preference. If you want to go a more natural route try a search on YT for natural flea, tick worm approaches. There is a YT member who references a very good website. PM me if you would like their name or the website.

| ![]() I don't have a Yorkie (but I wanted one!), but I have a little Pomeranian named Becky. We recently rescued Becky about a week ago (first dog). I was already doing research on preventatives, when I found fleas on her. That next day, because we still didn't have pet insurance, we went to Banfield (she needed an initial visit to the vet anyway). When it came time to discuss a treatment and preventative I INSISTED on either Comfortis or Sentry Natural Defense (Natural Defense uses certain herbal oils), and I already did research the previous night, but the vet was acting like he was denying me Comfortis and the Natural Defense (Natural Defense is an OTC med, and the vet admitted that he has no background on natural products), so he INSISTED on FirstShield Trio, and I had to give in after a 5-minute argument. Becky just got treated last night, but I knew that there was something sketchy about this medication. I'm now just shaking and pacing in worry that a reaction could have been present. I never had trusted Banfield. |

| ![]() I went to Banfield this evening to purchase Comfortis since it was on my from work. I called prior to going and was told they only need Noah's vet information in order to confirm he was in good health. When I got there, it was a different story. I was told I needed to bring him in so the vet could examine hime. I explained he already has a vet and I ride the bus. All of a sudden it became company policy that the vet would need to see him first. I was desperate to get some type of treatment for Noah because the fleas here in Florida are awful. She suggested First Shield Trio. She claimed it was better than K9 Advantix and Frontline. I had no idea about what it was made of until I got home and seached this web site. So far Noah is not having any reactions. I wish I knew of a natural flea preventative that works. |

| ![]() I have used this product and haven't had a problem, but do not plan to use it again due to the expense. I have had best results in getting rid of fleas by using Advantage and it is $4 cheaper than this First Shield Trio. Banfield is no longer carrying Advantage, so I will have to get from the internet. Hope your dog is doing better. |

I also use K9 Advantix. I used Frontline which did nothing for us at all. Even my vet quit selling it. K9 Advantix works for both fleas and ticks. I don't like that it has permethrin in it either but ticks are so bad in Arkansas I am afraid she would get something from them. Just like yours did with the Lymes disease. They carry so many different diseases. My son was bit by a tick and ended up getting one of the diseases. Thankfully we caught it early and it was treatable. As bad as I hate to say this, I would stick with k9 Advantix.
