Default Ear infection?

My mom just came over to see how my little baby is doing and we have come to the conclusion that she may have an ear infection in her left ear. It makes sense, she had a bath on Friday and I may of got some water in the ear, I had also plucked some hairs out of her ear. Yesterday evening I do remember the ear looking a little red inside but I always rub her ears so kind of brushed it off. The drowsiness this morning is probably because she is running a mild fever? She is feeling a little better now, she just had a few pieces of boiled chicken. While my mom was here we observed her ears, with the right one she was moving it around while listening and the left one was just still. It is obviously hurting her. I am going to be giving the vet a call and see what he has to say. I know she will probably need some medicine. Is there anything I can do for tonight or for short term? I will not have extra money til Thursday, I may be able to work something out before then but I really don't want to borrow money from FIL as he just lent us some til our next pay on Thursday.

ETA - That she is rubbing that side of her head against my hand, if I rub that side of her face she will put it down as if it is irritated. My poor baby Is there something I can give her for fever? Her ears do not smell foul at all and are clean.

While it is very possible that she has a yeast infection in her ear, she shouldn't have a fever from it. Ellie gets them and her only symptoms is itching.

I'm wondering if it may be a different type of infection. My moms boxer gets yeast infections in her ears often, but they smell bad and are red. Stormy's don't smell, the ear inside is a tad bit red and she seems to be pawing at it some what. I don't know if she has a fever 100%, I assumed that she may have one and therefore not be feeling very well. I don't have a termonetar for dogs. I have a childrens one that you use in the ear, but I don't think that would give me an accurate answer.

Hope your baby is feeling better soon, unfortunately, I don't have any answers...only a vet will know for sure if there is an infection or not.

It could be bacterial but when you said water got in her ear, that would cause the yeast issue. I imagine a bacterial infection could cause the symptoms it does in humans which is miserable.

Exclamation Please be careful with the ears!

I guess she has an ear infection and I would not be light harted with it or it may turn out like with Maggie. Her ear infection was very neglected when we got her and it got so bad that she had to have ear surgery to open the upper ear canal. She still has issues and needs medication regularly.

It may help if you put an ice pack (carefully!) on the ear and to the Vet ASAP (FIL will understand, it might get much more costly if you wait...)

Next time you give your baby a bath have some ear powder handy to sprinkle into the ear afterwards.

Thank you for the replies. We are going in an hour to the vet, I gave him a call and he said he would like to see her, he is going to work out a good price for me, and my mom is going to pay, she just loves Stormy as her own.

I hope she feels better. My little Cookie was constantly scratching her ears, but no fever and we went to the vet last night and she has yeast in both ears. When they cleaned them out there was a bunch of black stuff in there which looked totally gross! But since they cleaned them she has not been scratching at all. We have some drops that we put in twice a day for 10 days....Good luck at the vet, let us know how your baby is doing...

We are back from the vet. He checked her and said that the ear I suspected does show a little bit of redness but nothing he was too worried about, he gave her some ear drops. I was explaining to him how she was yesterday and he said he is hard to figure out exactly what may be wrong with her because her nasal cavity is exposed so she could very well get stuff in that may cause an infection in side. It is a little red inside but nothing to bad that you can tell from the outside. She just very well may be feeling pressure inside her nasal cavity which is also affecting her ears some what. Kind of like sinus congestion. He gave us an antibiotic for her to take. She already got one dose of it, just wondering if anyone has used it before. She is on Clavamox half a 63.5mg tablet. She is acting much better then before but refuses to touch her dry kibble at all. I made her some boiled chicken and plain rice with a little bit of carrot for dinner, she ate it all up, also ate a little bit of scambled eggs for breakfest and she seems to be doing better. She extremely cuddly now too

Yes, Clavamox is very popular. Ellie has taken it before.

Oh, it's good to hear that she feels better and ate something. The kibble may cause her pain when she chews it. Did she start to teeth already?

We had clavamox too for a few times...

She is passed teething she will be two in April. I am just thinking that since ears, nose and throat are all connected maybe the chewing is painful for her and soft food is easier for her to eat ATM.

Default I found some info on the antibiotic...

If she stopped eating after you gave her the dose of antibiotic, the medicine may make her food taste funny. I know a lot of medicines do that to me, esp prescription cough meds and antibiotics. Some antibiotics you have to take on an empty stomach but most I think recommends you take with food. The Clavamox may be making her feel nauseous and that would cause her to not have an appetite. Maybe you could give her some of her treats and that would help if it's nausea. Just be careful what you give her; I read a Thread today about someone who gave their puppy table food and they got so sick they almost passed away.

I looked it up on PetPlace.com and it said that....

...... it's a combination of Amoxicillin and Clavulanate, which act together to treat or prevent bacterial infections in animals. It also said that some animals may vomit shortly after they take it and it may be helpful to feed her something before the medicine is give to decrease stomach irritation. Also said if vomiting after administration continues to occur, contact your veterinarian. It is common for animals to develop diarrhea or loose stools from oral amoxicillin, and the same reaction may occur with Clavamox. This is caused by a change in the bacterial population in the animal's intestine.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for that. She is always been kind of picky when it comes to kibble but right now she wants nothing to do with it. She didn't want to eat it before starting the meds. The vet told me if she gets diarrhea to stop the meds and give her a day without to see if it goes away. Right now I can tell she is still not feeling 100%. I am worried it may be something else and I am so worried to lose her.
