| Gucci got his rabies shot today...I didn't want it and I forgotto tell her !! He has been sleeping on and off since 9:00 a.m. My poor honey, he looks so tired. He seems fine otherwise.. the vet said just to make sure he is up and around later tonight. He is 5 months and 5 lbs (almost) so he isn't super tiny but still small. I wasn't going to get him rabies and TOTALLY FORGOT TO TELL THE VET NOT TO GIVE IT.. GRRRR I am so mad at myself for that. Otherwise though he is healthy as ever!! no problems.. so we are very happy about that!! my little stinker is real quiet right now lol he is normally barking at me to carry him or squeezing squeaky toys lol I just wanted to share how our appt went, I was a little worried about getting him the rabies shot but it seems fine so far, I am sure many of you share that feeling!!! Here is a pic of him in his lil Monkey Daze Jumper that we LOVE LOVE LOVE .. he is so stinkin tired, he usually gets up and jumps at me when I take a picture lol. |

| There is a link somewhere I'll have to dig it up that tells all about the negative side effects of the rabies shot... they give the same amount to a 100lb dog that they do a 5 lb yorkie and there can be a lot of adverse reactions... that is why I didn't want him to get it.. simply out of concern. Hope that helps! you can search it on yt |

| I love your nickname for Gucci. I call Bentley monkey too! My youngest hates it and gets so mad but I think it completely fits Bents personality!! Gucci looks like a tough little monkey so I am sure he will be back to his typical antics by late this evening or tomorrow morning. It just takes time . Sorry he received the shot against your wishes. I have done that myself and have since learned to write all my stuff down before going to the vet. Then I ask for 2 minutes to review my life before we start so I can make sure all my wishes are conveyed. Wishes to you and Gucci that he may feel better soon!!!

I ask for 2 minutes to review my LIST. Can you imagine if I asked my vet for 2 minutes to review my life???? After about 30 seconds she would have me committed.

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | Isn't it a law that dogs have to get rabies shots? I know it is here. My Toby went to see the vet yesterday for his yearly wellness check up and his shots.....rabies included. The vet checked him from head to toes & he is as healthy as can be. They weighed him as they do each visit and he weighed 4 3/4 pounds. He had no adverse reactions at all to his shots........... he was his happy self all evening.

| Turk doesn't handle rabie shots well at all, but our county doesn't let you have a say in the matter. Every dog must be up to date on their rabie vac. Turk's usually lame for almost 24 hours. If your baby isn't himself by later this evening, he should be by the morning. |

| Are you in California or Canada? If you are in Cali, there is really no choice in the matter. Most states do have medical exemptions though. If a dog gets very sick from their rabies vaccine, the vet can write you a waiver. This would protect you from a fine but not the other things that come along with rabies law like quarantine, etc.

| awwww i am sorry gucci got rabies and you did not want him to my city & county say puppies have to be vaccinated by 3 or 4 months (i forget which one) but my new vet is awesome and will let you put it off until you feel comfortable....and he is very careful with the dosage and will only give mine the amt he feels is safe for their weight and age...he says too many vets give the same amount to a 5lb yorkie as a 100lb german shepherd

YT 2000 Club Member | Jeter just got his last week at his Yearly check up.( he got his 5 way booster 2 weeks before that) Hes on the tiny side at 2 pounds 12 ounces at 15 months age. He gets an antihistamine shot 20 minutes before getting any vaccination. It's a law in ohio that all cats and dogs 3 months and older get rabies vaccines. When Jeter got his very first rabies vaccine he was not even 2 pounds at the time and i did not want him to get them. I called the local Dog Warden to ask questions about the vaccine and they do not bend the rules for none! I was wanting Jeter to be a little older hoping he would of had some weight gain

It is normal for the puppy to sleep afterwards. Was it the only vaccination that was given? It is reccomended for it to be given separated. I hope your little puppy starts feeling better. It is also true that the same dosage is given to all cannines. Regardless of the size.

| They should have a Rabies shot at 4 months and then a three year Rabies shot a year later. Rabies shot shouldn't hurt them since it's not a live vaccine. There are wild critters like squirrel's, gophers, mice and such that could very well bite your baby when it's playing in the yard, and you wouldn't know if that animal carried Rabies. I wouldn't take chances.

| Just because a Yorkie gets the same amount as a Great Dane doesn't mean that they get "a lot". It only takes enough of the vaccine to give them an immunity and it's really not that much. I hope your little guy feels better soon. I have heard some stories about problems with the rabies shot, but my girls have handled it well. I always get the rabies shoe because it's the law in my township. I don't get any other shots unless the titer shows they don't have any more immunity.

| The way I understand it is while the rabies vaccine is way more potent than it needs to be, a Yorkie requires the same amount as a Great Dane because an immune system is an immune system and it takes so much to get an immune response.
