| Poop more I just finished the transition of my puppy's dog food to Nature's Variety INSTINCT Duck Meal and Turkey Meal. I noticed she poops more. Is that a pro or a con of the brand?

| I Know that it is a good food. I also had Tucker on that for a while until it was just to hard to get a hold of that brand around here. He also pooped alot. He pooped 4-5 times a day and he only ate half a cup per day. I have heard from my vet that if they poop alot there not getting much out of the food. I switched to natural balance duck and potato and he now poops twice a day.

She seems to like her kibble. And she grew taller and heavier in just a week!

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | What is the texture of the poo? If it is kind of mushy - I'm kind of thinking there is something in the ingredients that isn't agreeing with your baby. But it could also very well be that your baby is still adjusting since you *just* finished transitioning. You could wait a few more weeks to see how she does.

| Thanks for the reply... Her poo is not really mushy, but's kinda soft and wet while holding its shape. It looks to me as a normal "healthy" poo.

| I wish i don't need to switch... she eats her kibble without mix (and the $40 bag would just go to waste)... I just noticed after pooping she seems hungry again, even though it's just been 3 hours after her meal. I do feed her 4 times a day (every 6 hours) She goes craaazy waiting for food

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | If you feed her 4x a day, then it now makes sense to me that she is pooping quite often. Remember that dogs have very short digestion tracts. And the fact that she is excited about her food is a good thing - it's probably bc 1) it tastes good and 2) it's new ! If you're feeding 4x a day, I'd bet she's probably getting enough food if you're following the guidelines. Sounds like she's enjoying herself!

| I was wondering how old is your baby? I bought a bag of Nature's Variety Instinct for Mocha but haven't fed it to him yet 'cause he still has a couple bags of his raw food left. I was going to start him on it after all the raw is done. But now I'm a little worried since you mentioned that she grew taller and heavier in a just week. Mocha is a little over a year old and pretty much full grown, but I'm not sure if this will give him a major growth spurt all of a sudden? I don't want him to get any bigger, but only because he's got such a tiny little frame and tiny bones, that if he puts on excessive weight I'm worried his tiny frame won't be able to carry/support his weight. I just read a post where a member was saying her baby's ribs got seperated because she had put on too much weight for her tiny little frame

| My baby is 4 months old. She gained 100g/3.5oz in 2 weeks. During the transition days, I kinda gave her more food until she quits eating because she was picky (probably didn't like her old kibble, that I had to mix chicken liver in) and I was afraid she'd be hypoglycemic. Then I noticed she became a little fat, so after the transition, I lessened the amount of kibble I gave to her but it was according to the amount suggested for her weight, just in 4 little servings. She appreciated the food more (even without chicken liver) because it is not overflowing and now she can't wait to have her next meal Btw, I checked the Estimated Growth Chart and she's still on the right track so I guess the weight she gained wasn't really too much.

| After 2wks since I posted this topic... My puppy is still pooping a lot. I still feed her 4 times a day and she poops 5-6 times a day. I'm not concerned about the number of times she poops but the amount that she poops is starting to concern me. Seems to me it's a lot, i mean as much as what she ate. Is this normal? or does it mean her Nature's Variety Instict kibble is not good for her? I was kinda expecting smaller sized poop cause she's a small dog (1kg) But she poops like my friend's bigger dog! If you want me to post a pic of the poo (eeew!) I can do that By the way, it seems she gets hungry often specially after pooping (usually she gets hungry after 1-2hrs after meal time I feed her every 6hrs) does it means her body did not absorb enough nutrients from her food?

| I probably wouldn't be able to help you much here, but BY ALL MEANS, post the pic of the poop I don't think the censorship will catch you LOL. |

| I had to revive this thread after 6 weeks... My 5-month old puppy still poops a lot. She's still eating Nature's Variety Instinct Duck Meal and Turkey Meal and she loves it. I feed her now 3 times a day and she poops 6 times a day. And when she does poop, she lets out not too little poop. Her poop is normal in form/texture and has a very strong smell. And I think the strong smell makes her wanna eat her poop. And she does! Everytime when I'm not looking, even if I'm just there! Is it because she is hungry since she poops a lot? I tried feeding her pineapple and S.E.P.(<--like Forbid) and it doesn't work. And yes she is actually hungry most of the time and while I'm preparing her food she gets all crazy barking and jumping until I serve it. I give her little treats in between meals and I do not free feed her. But If I do, I don't think she'll eat it all up in one time because there was a time I put too much food in her bowl and she did not finish it. She stops eating when she's full, I guess. I don't know if there's a problem somewhere here.

| Why not try free feeding her again? I don't see why you're reluctant to do that. Particularly if you have just one dog (and therefore no "scavengers" that will eat her food if she doesn't get to it) there really shouldn't be a problem free feeding. I think you're right that she might be eating her poop because she's hungry. If there's always food available to her, she might stop her bad habit. |
