| Pet Store: AZ Well, I've jsut come here to share my tears. I just went to LUST PETS in Scottsdale to pick up some Fromm Food, not realizing they actually sell dogs there. I 0should know better....I should avert my eyes and just go right to the food, but NOOOOO. I had to see if they had a yorkie and they have a few, but one little girl looked like a Biewer with a lot of white in her. She is 6 months and beautiful and living in a box because they want (even with 40 percent off) $1750 for her. She's been there since March. 3 months in a box with noone to love her, no one to hold her...all because they have her waaaay overpriced at $3000. She isn't listed as a biewer but I think she is one or at least she has some genes in her. Anyway, I know not to buy from a pet store, but it's still not fair to that puppy. She was playful and sweet. She deserves better that a life in a box with a window. It breaks my heart...

| Are you thinking of getting her? I think if you want to you should rescue her. Maybe you could talk them down more since she is older. It's not the puppies fault she was put there so it's hard to not purchase pet store puppies but then leave them there. I understand how you are feeling.

| She looked a lot like Xena (above) with a bit more white. No, I can't get her...I already have 2 cats and 2 yorkies. My boyfriend (who I expect will be my husband eventually) has a basset hound and when we move in together, that is more than enough. Add on children in the next few years to that. I have no intention of giving our existing pets any less attention when we have kids and it would be a challenge as it is to give everyone the attention they deserve, so one more would be too much. If you find anyone looking for one to rescue, tell them about her. She's at JUST PETS (not LUST pets, duh)

| I will definitely pass the word - or better yet talk my husband into another one! Especially if she has Xena's features. Of course I have been working on another one - but hubby is holding his ground.

| Rescuing a puppy from a pet store is still supporting puppy mills. Pet Stores don't care why you buy the dog - they just care about making money, and by buying the puppy you'd be doing just that. I don't like to go into the pet store here because I feel so sorry for those puppies too. I know they are just innocent puppies, but no matter why you buy one, it's just going to help continue this cycle. So I will never buy one from a petstore - no matter how bad I feel for the puppy. It's just going to cause the parents to be continuously bred for profit. I wish there was some way to stop it.

| so you should just let the puppy sit there and be treated horribly.\ i mean im not making it right because i know its not but you cant not help a living creature. i mean lets say someone has two intact pets male and female and they keep mating and having babies and the owner throws the small puppies on the streets and knows someone is going to rescue it so they will keep doing it. and its okay to rescue them but not others. i mean not matter what you are supporting something in some way. it may be totally opposite to yall but not to me. IF i had all the money in the world and I seen a puppy mill and could rescue all those poor dogs then i would. not for the puppy mills sake but for the puppies. I mean when you adopt a dog from a shelter people are gonna keep dropping them off there because they know they are gonna be adopted. like i said i know puppy mills are worse but you cant tell someone not to rescue the poor puppy. i hate puppy mills but just think its sad the dog is gonna suffer either way. |

| Buying that puppy would save that one individual puppy, but you have to look at the total picture. As soon as you buy that puppy, the pet store will immediately replace it with another poor baby. Are you then going to rescue that one too? You can't rescue them all, and the petstore will just keep replacing them with another. When you buy a puppy from a petstore, you're lining the pockets of the store and thereby lining the pockets of the puppymill that supplies it. If everyone stopped buying these puppies, petstores would close, and puppy mills would be shut down. Continuing to "rescue" these puppies from petstores just keeps these mills going. Yes, it's terrible for those puppies and none of them deserve to live in a cage in a store, but buying it will only cause another puppy to be put in that cage.

| my little 2 cents i think its a loose loose situration its sad but i dont think that the cycle will truly end, and letting the puppies possibly suffer to make a point isnt worth it either. theres too much demand for puppies and money makes the world go round. 200 of us refusing to buy from the local pet stores, there's 400 more that are willing to by from pet stores. also there is the local shelters that is also a never ending cycle and sadly i just dont think there will ever be any major changes. i hope i not coming out negative on the prospect of stopping puppy mills and the likes..buts it people vs $, and money always wins. the only thing that might start a dent in this area, is banding breeding, but then you'll have people outraged at that. i think that if someone has the space, time and money to get/rescue the puppy, they should. its still a living, loving sweet animal and if someone here doesnt get then someone else will. which will still keep the cycle opened. and i rather see the puppy go to someone on yt with the knowledge to take care and love the pup. |

| This is definitely an interesting discussion. I support www.puppymillrescue.com so I understand the issues and I understand the point that needs to be made. But I love animals. ALL animals. And I can't blame the victim for being victimized in this situation. This is a breathing, living puppy that is in that cage for no fault of its own. It will suffer...not the pet store...if it's left in that cage. The pet store will get rid of the dog (I fear how) if she doesn't sell and they'll just replace her with another *cute* young puppy. So what happens to that dog? She is either euthanized or she's put into the rescue system anyway...a year later with no socialization and not having been loved for the last year. I'm sorry, but I think you should have seen the eyes of this dog to feel what I felt...To say 'hell with the rules'...I'm looking at the well being of this puppy. I know we can't save them all. But it's in my nature to try. I can't stand by and watch these animals, who love unconditionally, be neglected or ignored and unloved. It's no different for me to see that dog than it was when I went to the pound and found a cat that was going to be euthanized just 2 days after the pound received her...simply because she had a treatable respiratory infection...requiring anti-biotics....I called EVERY rescue organization I could locate. (I couldn't take her because my 15 year old cat had just had a tumor removed from her ear the day before and I was told by the vet that she could not be exposed to any infection until she was healed.) To me, I need to help in any way I can. I adopted Tahoe at 10 years old and he is the greatest thing in my life. I can't bear to think he may have been tossed aside and neglected if I hadn't stepped in any less than I can bear knowing that a puppy is in a petstore being neglected for 6 months. I just can't and that's all there is to it. It's not her fault. It's not her fault. 'It's not her fault' is all that I hear in my head.

| As long as you buy these dogs from stores, you are only keeping the millers in business and that means the suffering will never stop. It just has to stop. They are hoping you do feel sorry for the dogs and adopt them. It's best for ALL the puppies if you do not buy from these pet stores. It will shut the mills down and stop the suffering. |

| Well, if people donated all their extra money to charitable organizations, it would be best for ALL people who are starving. However, the likelihood of that happening is slim. So I'm going to help the people I come in contact with instead of counting on others to do the right thing. Same here. You and I know about puppymills, but most other people don't and they're not going to stop buying from pet stores and puppymills are never going to go out of business. Idealism doesn't work. The truth is that until the government steps in and makes puppymills illegal, then it will go on forever. I'm not going to stop helping one animal because of the principal of the whole thing. I guess we agree to disagree.
