| Emergency vet now or wait until tomorrow? I have a four week yorkie pup that I got a couple days ago. She weighs 1 pound 10 ounces. (Info on why I have such a young pup in my previous thread, if you haven't read it http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...poor-baby.html --and based on what I've read on development, I think she's 4 weeks, not 3) She's been doing very well today and has been eating great, sleeping well, and playing. She's eating Royal Canin mousse mixed with goat's milk and the food she was eating before I got her (pedigree puppy soft food) and supplementing with nutrical. She had a normal stool earlier today. She hadn't pooped for a while, even after eating more, so I tried to stimulate her to poop by rubbing her with a warm cotton ball. She finally did. It was pretty normal at first-a little soft, then she started straining really hard and a clear jelly like thing came out (about an inch long) dotted with a couple pink spots. Other than that, she seems completely fine. I was planning on taking a stool sample to the vet tomorrow already, but after I saw her jelly stool, I was wondering if this is a cause for concern and if she needs to go to the emergency vet or if it's just new home jitters. TIA Last edited by cherry14; 09-15-2013 at 03:22 PM. |

| If it were me I would calling your Your Emergency Vet and tell them whats going on. A pup that young could be a many things and I won't be chancing anything. Maybe the change in diet or maybe worms. I'm not sure at what age pups get dewormed. Poor baby I read your other post thank goodness you took her and are able to help her. |

| Sounds like mucus due to stomach or intestinal irritation. Here's an article about it. I would call the vet and ask, just to be sure. jelly like stool? - Dog Health Forum |

| OK, I called and explained the situation to them. She said as long as she was eating, drinking, playing and not lethargic or any other symptoms, she'd recommend keeping her home so we don't expose her to anything there. If she has any other symptoms, to bring her in immediately. Otherwise, just take her stool sample to the office tomorrow. She said she'd guess maybe worms or tummy issues. Thanks ya'll! She's just so young and is definitely keeping me on edge. |

| General note: keep in mind that very young puppies need plenty of rest. Try not to over-handle her or encourage her to play too much. The breeders can explain this better. Best wishes for your little one.

I took two stool samples (one from this morning, and one from yesterday) to the vet this morning (left her with my husband, not alone!). I specifically asked that they test for coccidia in addition to their normal tests. The receptionist said she thinks that they already test for it. They'll call me back today with her results. Her stool this morning looked pretty normal. A teeny bit of mucus, and a bit soft, but not diarrhea like. And she was SUPER playful when she woke this morning. Thank you all for your advice and hand holding! I know we're not out of the woods yet, but I do feel a bit better than I did last night. Thanks so much! | |

| I just got a call from the vet. She's got roundworms and they're giving us some meds for her. |

| I hate the baby has roundworms, but I'm glad you got an answer so quickly and that it is a treatable condition. Good luck and wishes for a rapid, uneventful recovery.
