| Had surgery today, very worried! My little Bella had surgery today. She was spayed and had a dental done. Also had to have a baby tooth removed that had not came out. I am worried about her because she is wheezing. I can't think of a better way to explain it. It sounds like she wants to whine/cry but she just keeps wheezing. Even while she is sleeping. I cannot get her to eat anything. She did drink a little water and I gave her her pain medicine but it doesn't seem to be making her feel better. Is this normal? Please, any advice you have is very much appreciated. |

| Thank you for responding so quickly. I will try to get her to drink some warm chicken broth too. She isn't sleeping, she is just moving around on the bed from place to place. She can't get comfortble. Thanks again. |

| After anesthesia many of them will whimper and whine the first night. Are you sure it is wheezing? If she is actually wheezing, she should be seen; but if it is a low whining sound, that is pretty normal. Along with wheezing, she would have increased respirations. Certainly would not hurt to call the vet if you can.

| It may be that she is whimpering and it just sounds like she is wheezing. She is doing it even when she sleeps. I am going to watch her closely through the night and she how it goes. Thank you all so much!I haven't been on Yorkie Talk in a couple of years and I am so happy that I thought about it tonight. You guys are the best! |

| My guess is it is that sound they make...it is a bit frightening the first time you hear it. She is lucky to have such an attentive mom! Hope the night is uneventful and you get some sleep! I am sure she will be brighter tomorrow morning!

YT 2000 Club Member | Jazzie was spayed today as well, but doc gave her an injection of pain meds before the surgery, he said it would last until tomorrow. I've been laying on the bed beside her for hours, she makes sounds when she loves, like she's a bit uncomfortable, but that's about it. What did they send you home with for pain? Jazzie is 4 pounds 14 ounces, her med they sent home is Rimadyl (there's 1 tablet in the bottle, it's 25mg) I am to split that in half and give her half of it tomorrow and half the day after. She hasn't eaten anything since yesterday, she wasn't allowed to have anything after 7:30 in the evening, nothing to eat or drink. So, I mixed some kayro syrup in water and am pushing fluids with a syringe. I'm hoping by tomorrow all three of our furbabies will be feeling a bit better, but if Bella isn't, I'd call the vet back, specially if she's really wheezing.

| dont want to alarm you I don't want to alarm anyone but after my yorkie was neutered her was very sick throwing up and the vet said it was from the anesthia. He was crying too, 6 months later I found out he had liver shunt disease which is very common in Yorkies especially if they don't come from a good breeder. We lost Theo after a 3 month battle in and out of the hospital. If your babies don't bounce back in a few days I encourage you to have a test done because if liver shunt is detected they can operate while they are very young and most have a preatty normal life. I wish someone would of told me this when he was 6 months then maybe we would still have him. He also had teeth that needed to be extracted but we couldn't put him back under. Sadly yorkies purchased at puppy stores or from backyard breeders are usually not healthy and it leads to heartache. Theo's 3rd year anniversary is coming up on St. Patty's Day and our hearts still hurt from losing him. I had one other Yorkie that I purchased 3 months after Theo from the same place since we didn't know better (Puppy Boutique)and he has a few throwing up issues but at least he will be 4 yrs old and for the most part is healthy. I found a great breeder last year in Long Island so Charlie has a little sister who is a bundle of energy. I can see the difference between a healthy Yorkie and one purchased from a pet store. PLEASE DON'T BUY YOUR BABIES FROM PET STORES. My next Yorkie I will rescue or get from the same breeder if none are available.
