| Jake has Kidney Failure "please help" Jake, our 5 lb yorkie was diagnosed with kidney failure on August 2nd and we were devestated. He is 12 years old and has been the best little friend I could have ever ask for. When ever I'm home he is always with me, every foot print I leave has his in it. Our vet gave him fluids for six days and checked his blood again and it changed a little but not enough for him to give good prognosis. We are currently taking him every other day for fluids. We cannot bring ourselves to part with him please help fellow yorkie lover we are desperate to save him or do at least the best we can for him we love him so much he is like a littl boy caught in a dogs body. | I'm so sorry to hear about Jake. It sounds like you are a great mommy to him and he's in the best care. I don't even know what to say because I can't imagine being in your situation. I really hope that all goes well and Jake continues to improve. Please keep us updated. We'd love to see a picture of your best friend, too.

| So sad to hear about Jake, we had a cat that had kidney failure at age 12, we gave him the IV's our selves at home. Prayers and hugs are with you and Jake at this sad time.

| hello, and welcome to yorkie talk! i am very sorry to hear about your sweet little baby boy jake, it is so hard when they're sick. i will keep him (and you) in my thoughts and prayers. back when there was that large pet food recall years ago, my mom had a 6 year old cat that all of a sudden went in to kidney failure. (she had about 25% kidney function) she stayed in the hospital for a few days partially at an er clinic and partially at her regular vet's office. i would go to my mom's house every afternoon and give her iv fluids myself at her home. within the 1st year she gained her weight back, regained her appetite and over the next several years she did very well on the fluids. we were told she would need to have that done every day for the rest of her life. but after about 3 years, she was doing so well (the drs were amazed) we started doing it every other day, and eventually stopped giving fluids all together. she has kept her on a prescription diet she gets from the vet's office ever since. to this day she is a fat, healthy kitty at almost 14 years old! so i truly hope your little jake does this well and amazes the drs with an incredible turnaround! sounds like you are doing a great job taking care of him! please keep us updated on how jake is doing! sending you and jake a hug!

| I'm so very sorry that you are going thru this with your precious Jake. My Sammy had kidney failure. He was on k/d canned and dry food. He also took 1/4 Pepcid once a day and also phosphorous binder (Maalox), and vitamins. I'm praying for you and Jake and sending hugs your way. Hang in there and enjoy every moment with your Jake. |

| Jake Hello all, Thanks for the prayers and well wishes. We had our vet run the blood work on Jake again to see if anything has change and it has gotten a little worse. We are still very hopeful though. We try to always feed him organic steak and chicken with hills I/D and give him distilled water to drink from what I have been able to find out this causes his Kidneys to work less. We cant imagine him not being here or not going camping with us whichhe loved so much. The way he looks at us sometime just tears our hearts out. Is anyone familiar with a drug called Azodyl and Ekaptin any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Jake's Daddy Randy |

| Has he been getting fluids? Have the Vet added a Phos Binder to help with the kidney's? Why is he eating the I/D and not the one for the kidney's? While I know most dog's don't like the K/D which is for the kidneys there is Purina NF that most do like.I hope he will get better.
