hello, and welcome to yorkie talk! i am very sorry to hear about your sweet little baby boy jake, it is so hard when they're sick. i will keep him (and you) in my thoughts and prayers.
back when there was that large pet food recall years ago, my mom had a 6 year old cat that all of a sudden went in to kidney failure. (she had about 25% kidney function) she stayed in the hospital for a few days partially at an er clinic and partially at her regular vet's office. i would go to my mom's house every afternoon and give her iv fluids myself at her home. within the 1st year she gained her weight back, regained her appetite and over the next several years she did very well on the fluids. we were told she would need to have that done every day for the rest of her life. but after about 3 years, she was doing so well (the drs were amazed) we started doing it every other day, and eventually stopped giving fluids all together. she has kept her on a prescription diet she gets from the vet's office ever since. to this day she is a fat, healthy kitty at almost 14 years old! so i truly hope your little jake does this well and amazes the drs with an incredible turnaround! sounds like you are doing a great job taking care of him! please keep us updated on how jake is doing! sending you and jake a hug!
