| Gambit's Had a HORRIBLE Few Days So, the past few days things haven't gone too well. I took Gambit to get his boosters and he had a pretty bad reaction... his face swelled up and he started vomiting so I sped back to the vet and they kept him overnight. I took him home the next morning and everything was fine up until this morning... He's been shivering, slight diarrhea and he's thrown up twice! And now he won't eat or drink anything unless I hand him each piece of food individually, I've been sitting here by his food dish with him, feeding him piece after piece and dipping my fingers into the water because he'll lick the water off my fingers. I have no idea what to do! Please help! My japanese vet said he'd be fine and it was probably just his nerves after what happened but.... Has anyone every had anything like this happen? is it because of the shots or is he just sick now?! Sarah & Gambit |

| Update... His diarrhea's gotten worse and this morning he won't eat at all! I called my vet again and he said to wait it out... I don't know if I can! He's just sitting around, sleeping in my lap every time he gets the chance. I'm going to go buy some chicken breasts and see if he'll eat that. It seems like we've had a bunch of little problems since he came home and every time I call the vet he says the same thing, "He's a puppy, this happens so just wait it out". My husband and my roomate keep telling me I'm overreacting and he's a dog so he'll be fine. Should I just calm down? It's been so long since I've had a puppy and I've never had a small dog. Is there any chance these diarrhea episodes and his random spells of not eating are leading up to something worse? The diarrhea I can live with but it's when he won't eat that I get scared. I need a hug... Sarah & Gambit |

| Do you have an ER vet you can take him to, sounds like he needs to see a new vet if that's what your current one keeps telling you... NO, it's NOT "normal" for a dog to act the way your's is, I wouldn't wait it out and you shouldn't either, it's been going on too long...Hope the best for you and your puupy

| I don't blame you for being worried. He could be getting pretty dehydrated if he is vomiting and has diarrhea. Has he had a change in food or been fed anything different that could cause the problem? I'm not sure waiting it out is such a good idea if it's been over 24 hours. The chicken is a good idea. I would remove any skin and boil it. Maybe add a little rice. I hope Gambit is feeling well soon.

| Well... As for a change in food, not really.... I've been giving him a tablespoon of Cesar wet dog food mixed with his dry Iams for dinner but he's had it twice and this is the first time he's reacted badly to it. I just gave him the chicken and rice and he ate a good bit of the chicken and any rice he couldn't get unstuck to the chicken. LoL I've been keeping him hydrated with pedialite and water so I'm not too worried about dehydration. If he doesn't seem any better by 1pm today I'm going to just take him to the vet and force them to check him over. I really like my vet and he and the staff are crazy about Gambit so maybe I'm not being clear to him how bad the diarrhea is, he's usually spot on with taking care of my lil baby, I'm going to take some of his stool with me so he can see. At least the shivering has stopped and he's being a bit more active since the chicken. Thanks everyone for your kind words and suggestions! Maybe it was just the wet food, that'll show me to try and spoil my baby! I really hope that's all it is. Sarah & Gambit |

| I think it's a pretty safe bet that he had a reaction to his shots. Do you know exactly which shots he got? You should also be aware that some pups who have had past reactions and got the same shots in the future have passed away. I think it would be wise to do some research on the subject and be prepared to discuss this with your vet.

| I'm looking at his paperwork from the vet and it says he got : Parvovirus Distemper Parainfluenza Adenovirus Viral hepatitis I'm not sure if I even want to give him any of the other shots now! I'll do the rabies because I know that's an important one but.... I just don't know! He got the shots on the first, stayed over night and came home around noon on the second. The third and fourth he was fine but then he's been having the diarrhea since yesterday afternoon. So far he's been fine today, just a little this morning. Then again, he hasn't gone since... Would it be irresponsible for me to not get him the next few sets of shots? Again, I'll do the rabies because it's always been stressed to me that it's very important. The vet told me there's another shot that's super important but I can't remember what it was called. I don't want Gambit to go through this every time he has to get shots!!!

| Please don't let your vet give your baby all those shots at the same time again. That's way too much for his little system and can cause a disease called GME. GME can be deadly and when they do live through it, GME is not curable only treatable. Ask your vet to separate your babies vaccinations in the future. I would definitely take him back to the vet and make them do something. If he's still having diarrhea he needs to be on IV fluids as he will dehydrate quickly. He is in serious trouble now so I would not waste time getting him back in to a vet. If I were you I would be finding a new vet ASAP, one who knows allot more about small dogs as this vet should have known better then to give all these vaccinations all at the same time. |

| shots Please get him to another vet asap! My boop has reactions to his parvo + immunizations.....They compromise the immune system and our little ones have such sensitive GI systems.... I know of a baby that passed away due a reaction to immunizations. Boop has had rabies...he seems ok with that. He gets pretreated with meds to help prevent a reaction.I didnt get his parvo yet this year.....My vet said not to yet ..........He is not around strange dogs...........Hope this helps..............Boops mom |

| Wow. Well no worries ladies! I will NOT be getting him any of the other shots the vet reccomended! I think it was thelepto shot that the vet said was so important... I'll get him his rabies then get him micrchipped and have done with it. The only other dog I've owned, besides the two I had as a child, was a Newfoundland and he had no problem wih shots, so I had no idea this was even a big thing to worry about! I feel like such a terrible Yorkie Mommy! Gambit is doing much better today so I think we're out of the woods... but it was still scary and I do NOT want to do it again. He's laying in my lap now, chewing on his "puppy" and looking much better. My heart was breaking earlier when he was just laying around, moping so I'm so glad I can sleep in peace tonight; thoughI'll probably take him to a new vet tomorrow just for a checkup and to explain everything that's been going on. Have a good night!

| I never get the lepto shots. Lots of small dogs have reactions to them, too. Like I said, I would do research on the subject of reactions AND discuss this with the vet.

| I never heard of a vet giving a puppy so many shots at one time. I'm glad your puppy is feeling better but I would find a new vet ASAP. |
