| Renal failure in 6 month old My baby, Rocky, is almost 6 months old and was diagnosed with kidney failure 2 days ago. We have been taking him in for fluids every day and picking him up at night to come home. He has also been receiving antibiotics. They are giving him no chance and say that if his labs have not changed by tomorrow (Friday) they suggest putting him to sleep. Does anyone have any experience with this? He is eating, he plays, he just gets tired easy and sleeps more than usual. He does not seem to be in pain. He does not seem sick enough for me to give up on him yet. We are not sure what has caused this, but the vet seems to think that he was born with it. We have been over everything and there is no way of contact with antifreeze, grapes, swiffer, etc. Any suggestions or advise would trully be appreciated. I do not know what to do. All I know is that for right at this moment my whole family is devastated. |

I don't think you can get any better advice than this. Please see the thread, in Sick and Emergencies, "My Little One is Dying" as it will give you hope. It seems like your vet is willing to give up too easily, and I don't understand putting your puppy to sleep if he is still eating and playing.

| I'm so sorry to hear that. Here is another option too you. Susan Davis is a Certified Clinical Nutritionist that deals with doggie nutrition. Her website is: Ecommerce web hosting solution by eMerchantTech.com AskAriel.com I have been dealing with Kidney/urine issues my one Shih Tzu for about 6 months. He's finally feeling much better. I won't go into detail with my dogs situation but Susan has helped me greatly. She can help with supplements & to let you know what kind of diet your dog should be on for a certain kind of problem. I pray that Rocky makes it and lives to be a ripe old Yorkie age.

| op there is hope as they told me my dog had a tumor in his pancreas and was going to die 4 years ago and he did not. I rushed him to a specialty hospital that day after the ultrasound and he had a plasma transfusion and lived and is alive 4 years later and doing great. Never give up but you have to deal with specialists when something gets real serious |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I lost Dixie to congenital kidney failure at 7 months. My vet gave me no hope but I did go to a nephrologist and he said he thought he could help her. He said if they had at least 25% kidney function that they did pretty good with fluids and medicines. Unfortunatley Dixie only had 17%. He said that he had many yorkies in his practice under long term care and doing well. Don't give up hope. I know how devastated you are. I couldn't believe it when I found out. If you want to talk just pm me. I will keep your baby in my prayers.
