| Hair Works Its Way Down Throat - Scary Behavior I know this is weird, but it keeps happening to Piccolo. Wondering if anyone has any advice or at least can relate? About 5-6 times, Piccolo has had hair that works its way into her mouth and down her throat. Example below... Hair.2jpg.jpg Sorry this picture is not clear, but just wanted to show that the hair I cut off was 3 inches long. The first time I took her to the vet, because she kept licking her nose. (It took the vet a long time to find this.) Now, I have finally figured out that if Piccolo starts acting extremely weird, I need to start searching. Just want to add - this is very, very hard to see and I usually need a flashlight and help from another person. . One time she started pulling the threads of the carpet up, so I decided to search her mouth area. Tonight she started licking the couch obsessively. Really scary. Would love your input or advice.... Thanks!

| Oh my...poor little Piccolo. That is scary, I have no idea why she would do that? It will very interesting to see what people post. Lexi and I will keep her in our prayers that everything is ok and she will stop doing this Give her hugs...you know now that I think of it Lexi will lick and lick and lick my DH and my rings? Thought maybe it was a deficiency of some sort? But, always forget to ask the vet??

| I noticed when Peek A Boo eats, sometimes some hair will lay in his bowl and it gets eaten along with the food, but of course it won't go all the way down. He has done all the behaviors you described, trying to dislodge it. So now I've gotten in the habit of checking him before and after he eats, and sometimes in the middle of his meal even, just run my fingers along his lipline, if I run into some hair, I gently pull it out. He has gotten pretty massive amounts at least halfway down his throat. As he has gotten used to me doing this for him, sometimes when he has a problem, he'll stop eating and give me a look, and I go over and help him. It did freak him out the first few times though, Must feel weird to them too. I believe show people have a thing that goes around the neck at feed time, like a big hair scrungy, that keeps the long hair out of the food bowls, hence out of their throats. Can't remember what it's called... Hope this helps...

| What a great idea and I just learned a new word. I think something like that could help.

| It will also keep the facial hair from becoming wet with saliva or absorbing any oils out of the food, so she'll look clean and pretty even right after she eats! or chews!

The 'snoods' look very interesting. The only problem is that it wouldn't keep the mustache (upper snout hair) out of the mouth.

Finally, I looked wayyyy in the corner of his mouth - and he had a piece of his mustache (the piece that is attached right at the corner) going INSIDE his mouth, and then down his throat! So, I pulled on it - and boom, came right out, easy. Since then, this has happened again - I think bc he has a flatter face and a tiny, tiny mouth - his fur sometimes just sneaks its way into the corner of mouth. So whenever I see that his "swallow" changes, I now know to look in the deep corners of mouth . It was so bizarre the first time I saw it !

This is just another very helpful thing I learned here at YT. Now I know to look along the lip line for hair when he does the gulping move you described.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | That happens to Pixie when ever she eats her canned food. I check her mouth after each meal. It doesn't happen to my other 3. A few months ago when we were on vacation, my sister came over to feed them and she was trying to get Roxie to eat and when she came back in to the kitchen, Pixie was on her back choking. Luckily my sister has tons of experience with animals and checked her mouth right away and got the hair and food clump out of her throat. She called me after and said she almost had a heart attack. She said she knew my DH would freak out if something happened to his Pixie. So now Pixie knows if she has canned food she gets a mouth check. It is so scary. I had it happen to my Gracie years ago. I took her to the vet because she kept swallowing hard. I thought she had a sore throat. I felt awful when the vet pulled out a wad of hair just like in your picture.
