That happens to Pixie when ever she eats her canned food. I check her mouth after each meal. It doesn't happen to my other 3. A few months ago when we were on vacation, my sister came over to feed them and she was trying to get Roxie to eat and when she came back in to the kitchen, Pixie was on her back choking. Luckily my sister has tons of experience with animals and checked her mouth right away and got the hair and food clump out of her throat. She called me after and said she almost had a heart attack. She said she knew my DH would freak out if something happened to his Pixie. So now Pixie knows if she has canned food she gets a mouth check. It is so scary.
I had it happen to my Gracie years ago. I took her to the vet because she kept swallowing hard. I thought she had a sore throat. I felt awful when the vet pulled out a wad of hair just like in your picture. |
