| Sick Pup Last night my husband noticed that our yorkie was acting strange he was whining and breathing was erratic. He slept in the bed with us and didn't move all night just slept. When we woke up this morning he was just not acting like himself, he wanted to be held and he has been whining non stop. We took him to the vet and they said he had broncitis and gave him two shots and two medications to take at home. He is walking around fine but he has not stopped whining anyone know why he might still be whining?? He can't seem to get comfortable either. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Sounds like he is in pain. Is he a puppy? Was he recently given a bordatella vaccine (ie, kennel cough)? If yes to both of those, he needs to be watched very closely for progression to pneumonia. Has he been coughing lately? Was this your own vet you saw or an ER vet? Did the vet listen to the lungs?

| He is a 1 years old! He hasn't had any kind of shots lately! No coughing just breathing trouble. We called our vet and they met us there! He listened to his lungs and said it sounded asthmatic and he had bronchitis. He gave him two shots and said if he doesn't feel better by 5 today call him back. He has finally laid down and is sleeping! Last edited by jmd284; 02-28-2010 at 08:10 AM. |

If this is a bout of bronchitis, the meds can work fairly quickly (if they're going to work) - so you'd see noticeable improvement over the next 1-2 days. Btw, dogs can get very, very scared when their breathing feels restricted (not perhaps w/, say, reverse sneezing - but w/ other types of restrictions, and they want to be held and they shake, just like your guy did). Hang in there, you'll get him through this .

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Hope he feels better. Some of the shots they give for breathing troubles can cause restlessness as well.

| I am sorry that your lil one is not feeling good. I hope that he feels like himself very soon. I don't have much for advice except keep a close eye on him and if he gets worse get him back in the vet. |

| The vet gave him one shot of antibotic and one steriod shot. He also gave me two pills one antihistamine and one antibotic. Not sure how I am going to get Rex to take them because he doesn't want to eat anything not even a treat which he always loves. Any suggestions on how to give him the pills. He just woke up and has started his whining again. His breathing seems to be better he just is still whining. |

| He may be whining just because he feels awful; but, if he continues, I would call the vet and ask what he thinks. That really is great you got him in to see your vet and that he is available today!! I have a couple of pups I have to just put pills down their throats. They simply will not take them with treats. Here is a great video that shows how to give meds to a pup: How To Give Your Dog a Pill Video | Dog Care & Grooming | Howcast.com Here is another one with a chi....this one is interesting as it suggests giving water in a syringe after. I had never thought of that!

| Yea he is very agitated but I haven't given him the pills yet. It said every 12 hours give it to him. I can't read the vet's handwriting but I think one says baytril and the other is the antihistamine and it says Ter... can't read the rest its a gray pill with T 100 on it. |

Baytril is the big daddy antibiotic I do not think either of these would make him whine. He could be whining from the shots Make sure when you give both the antibiotic and the temarilp you give mid meal so 1/2 food then pill then 1/2 food and separate them out as both could upset the tummy so never give those on an empty stomach LJ - great video that was very informative | |

| Thanks to everyone for your help!!! Rex seems to be feeling much better and starting to act more like himself! He has eaten a little food but hasn't drank any water so I will keep watching him on that. He actually was even chewing on his chew stick. That little guy had me scared this morning!!! |
