| Blood in Stool Yesterday I came home alittle early from work and I noticed there was blood spots on the pee pad. I called the vet and thats when I seen Shadow having a bowl movement. It was a very light color, covered with some jelly like liquid. Sorry for being graphic, but the jelly liquid was yellow in color with blood spots. I took Shadow tot he vet with the stool sample. The vet checked him over and said everything seems to be normal. He took in the stool sample for testing, and gave me some Metronidazole ( 2ml per day for 7 days.) The results for the sample came in today and he was negative for paracites, and Giardia. I asked the vet, what could be the problem. She couldn't give me an answer. Just that paracites and giardia were ruled out. I was also told to just monitor him for a couple days if he doesn't improve to bring him in for bloodwork. Shadow is about 6 months now, up to date with shots, eating habits seem normal, and water intake is normal. He is still very active. I took him for a walk, and his stool was soft. He still had some reddish liquid coming out but not nearly as bad as yesterday. My question is, what could have caused this? The only thing i can think of is he found a worm and ate half of it before I took it away from him. |

| I know you are concerned, but it appears that you have done all the right things so far. When there is any change in the bowel movements, I usually put the dog on plain white rice and chicken baby food for a day or two to see if that clears it up. Keep an eye on everything. My vet always says that if the dog is eating/drinking normally and acts normal that is usually a sign it will pass. But if there is lethargy, change in the color of the gums or something that just doesn't seem "right", then go back into the vets for a check. I hope this all turns out okay for you.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | The pom I am fostering tested negative for giardia when I took her and with in a few days had bloody, mucousy diahrea but was acting fine. I had her retested and she tested positive for Giardia. They put her on panacur but that has not helped, so now she will go on metrodrozinole for 10 days. So it sounds like Shadow should be helped by the meds.

| Did they check her stool for coccidia. My little girl had the same symptoms with coccidia.

| This is what they said Capone had too when he had those symptoms. They said it could of been due to stress, have you moved or changed anything in your schedule recently?

| the fecal covers all parasites so if negative it is negative for all - just had this done for my maltese as she had blood in stool for no apparent reason had inhouse fecal, lab fecal and culture done all came up negative so we ruled it stress colitis which could be the case for yours. Just call vet and confirm coccidia was part of fecal but it should be. You could do one fecal each week for 3-4 weeks as our internal medicine specialist says that is the only way to really confirm it is not giardia as it is hard to pick it up sometimes so she recommend we do this but the bloody stool stopped and my other two had no issues as giardia is very contagious |

| this is what i think as my dh was gone for 2 weeks visiting his family and then the second time it happened was after the groomer came but since this pup is young you want to make sure coccidia and giardia are ruled out |

The only stress he could of had was this past weekend when we took him to a cousins house in his crate. He was crying for a while, we didn't take the x-pen since it was cold outside, and we didn't want him running around the house with lots of little kids around.

I always go the most conservative probiotics, then if that is not working tylan powder then if that is not working metronidazole. Tylan is a much lower dose than metronidazole and it has an anti-inflammatory agent as well but it has a bitter taste and comes in a powder so why most vets go to metronidazole. White rice will also firm up diarhea as well. So here is my take if there is not parasites, no infection then why treat with an antibiotic? Just go to a probiotic a little white rice if your dog does not have allergies and maybe a little pumpkin to firm them up -- TOO MUCH pumpkin will make them worse and go the other way and make the diarhea worse

| lol she thought i was nuts but oh well i told her too bad i need you to see the pattern of what is going on not just poop in a jar so we can figure out what the heck is going on - i always video tape or take pics as dd has alot of skin issues so i take pics and email to dermatologist so she can help me figure out what is going on plus i am on a vet group as well as work with jean dodds so i send pics of what is happening so they can help me out too as mine have a lot of health issues sadly so it has helped to narrow stuff down by getting a few opinions plus i think we should all do that to help each other for ex i have not seen what giardia poop or coccidia poop looks like and it is really hard to find pics on internet sadly so if we can make a library of poop that would be great so we can help dogs faster maybe |
