| How is Lily doing today? hopefully no more seizures. Hugs to you and sweet baby girl. I would see if your vet could give you a RX food and lactulose it will not hurt her to be on a low protien diet until you can get some answers. Copper's seizures stopped completely when we changed diet, and has never been as sick as he was durring diagnosis. I really thought that he wasn't going to make it. But now you would never know that he has a liver problem.

I am so so glad to hear that there has been no seizures for a few days. I looked at her pics... she is too cute You are doing such a wounderful job with her. She is really lucky to have found such a wonderful and carring momma. It is so hard when they are sick and they cannot tell you what is wrong. I really hope that you can get into Ellie's vet that would be great. Copper did not have loose stools, actually he had the opposite he would go sometimes a day or so without a BM. He did vommit a couple times. And the neuro symptoms did come and go I noticed his first siezures and then he went almost a week without anything and then it flared up really bad, he was lethargic and limp. He wanted to hide and only wanted to be with me. He looked so depressed. He would spend alot of time rubbing his head up and down the wall behind the couch. And like you described earlier, he would try to climb as high as possible, usually ending up on the back of my neck. My vet actually argued with me about the liver problem, he didn't think that he fit all of the exact symptoms and didn't even want to do a BA test and told me I was wasting my money. He applogized after the results and I have since changed vets. Most vets have little to no experience with this, his reason for not thinking it was the liver was that it is not very common, he thought that it might be another seizure disorder. .[/QUOTE]

| The head rubbing, bumping, pressing against the wall is actually a type of seizure associated mostly with liver problems. In the vet world we call it Head butting or Head pressing. And it is NOT A SYMPTOM of a seizure, but an ACTUAL SEIZURE. Did you tell the vet she is doing this? If you did he should have recognized this as a liver problem. If you did tell him and he's not getting the clue, Take her to a vet that knows more about liver symptoms. ASAP. |

My precious baby girl had no vomiting or loose stools at all and she had liver shunt surgery in March at University of TN. I had been asking my vet to Bile Acid test her for months on the advice of people on Yorkie Talk and my vet kept insisting that she did not have LS. She kept telling me that she was growing and that she was not "sick enough" to have LS. She really did not have alot of other symptoms except for being a really picky eater, small size, and she was increasingly getting more lethargic. I really liked my vet and she really liked my baby girl - she just was not familiar with LS and it's many symptoms and devastating effects on these babies. She finally did the BAT when I insisited before we spayed her - had we not done the test, we may have lost her. I don't think the LS diet would hurt your baby even if she did have hypoglycemic episodes. Keep some nutrical on hand, make sure that she eats several small meals (4-6) a day and put her on the lactulose so that the toxins don't back up and cause her to have any other neurological symptoms. My baby had a "very large" shunt and never had a neurological symptom, so you never know how it is going to affect each of these babies; I don't think the LS diet will have any adverse effect on your baby girl, regardless. I hope whatever you do helps...I know how stressful this is - you are doing a great job! She is a lucky little girl to have you! | |

| My Gizmo did not ever have any loose stools. He did vomit sometimes, but did not show any real neuro symptoms for over three years. He was just a picky eater, very thin, and would shake very bad after eating. He even went for a year without any symptoms at all. I did not believe it was LS either, but it was. When he started getting sick again, he went down hill very fast. He showed the neuro symptoms that you have described your baby having. I would go to Ellies vet if you are close. My vet is the very best in the town where I live, but he did not have enough experience with LS to know what was going on. I had to take Gizmo to UT before we knew for sure what his problems were. Good luck with your baby, She is lucky to have you.

| Hills L/D wet is an Rx food for Liver Issues. You can get 1 can from your Vet and split it up into baggies and freeze. The portion that you are using, I would add a little water and blend very well. You can then add the Kayro that your Vet is telling you to add and feed her this mixture as often as he tells you too. At least this will cover that fact that she MAY have a Liver Shunt (or MVD) and it will also cover any Hypo episodes. I would still get the Lactulose and if Ellie May's Vet is near you, I would go to her. We know that you are doing your very best, your love does shine thru. I just wish your Vet had more LS experience

| Hoping that Lily continues to improve, especially on the new diet. I agree with getting the Hills L/D (and I don't ever agree with Hills Rx), but in this case I think it is a good idea. I agree with mixing in some karo and feeding every two hours per your vet's instructions, but also following the LS protocol so as not to make her any sicker in the meantime. Still sending our prayers.....
