| heart attack in yorkies My 9 year old yorkie past away this past Monday night. He had just had a complete check up and was healthy. He was scheduled to have a dental cleaning on the Friday before he passed away. I cancelled the appt at the last minute because I just did not feel peace with him having the procedure. Monday night was a usual night at our house. My husband was playing with him and he spoke to the cat that had walked down the hall way. Jag quickly turned to look at the cat and fell to the ground. He didnt try to brace his fall. He lived 5 minutes. He didnt yelp or make a sound at all after he hit the floor. Ive been trying to research this on line. From all the research I've done, it seems heart attacks are not very common in dogs. My husband and our vet think he probably was almost dead before he hit the ground and that it was something more than likely with his heart or an anneurysm(sp). Has anyones yorkies had something similiar to this happen? Did they simply die suddenly or were there symptoms?I cant get him out of my mind and am wondering what went wrong. It's hard to deal with this kind of loss and not know exactly what happened doesnt help the situation. Any similiar stories you could share would help me greatly. |

| I am sorry to hear about your baby passing so suddenly. I do know of one congenital disease that would cause this. My little guy Babybear turned quick one day and colasped to the floor. Was told it was a pinched nerve. Then 3 months later he jumped off my lap yelped and had a seizure and stopped breathing. If my husband did not give him mouth to mouth he would have died. He was misdiagnosed with his vet but I took him for a second opinion and found he had Atlantoaxial Instability. Check that out on Petplace.com. You will see that it can cause sudden death. I am so sorry you have had to go through this. I hope you find the answers you are looking for hon.

| sorry for your loss... a friend of mine from new jersey had 3 yorkies, one of them died suddenly very similar to what you described. She came home and opened the door for them to go out, as soon as her dolly came out to the deck door she collapsed on my friend's feet , she had time to take her to the vet as she has a vet around the corner from her house. Dolly had just had a check up and all was very fine, i dont know how old she was but not very old or too young either as we have being friends for a few years and she always had these dogs, anyways, the vet told her it was excitment that caused her heart attack, just sudden like that ... so it is the second time i hear of something like that... my friend finds the confort to know that she was well cared for and since she had just been at the vets for a check up it was nothing that could have been avoided. She has wild bunnies in her back yard and her yorkies love to chase them and get very excited about it, but that day "dolly" did not get to see the bunnies and collapsed at her feet . The vet mentioned that it could be excitment just to see her owner.... well, i hope by sharing this i give you some confort !!! my friend got another one, she could not stop thinking about her dolly... now she doesn't talk about it anymore. take Care.

| I'm so sorry for your loss . Maļa was a happy little one . One that she asked me to go on my bed , I was very surprised because she never ever wanted to go on the bed . I placed her on the bed , she gave me kisses as she never did . She went on the pillow , and never waked up . |

| virginagirl We just lost our beautiful maize last night. We are so devastated. He too just had a clean bill of health, had his teeth cleaned and everything has been great. Yesterday he was barking up a storm as usual, playing with our other dog, his same rambunctious self, by 9pm he was dead. He was lying down, we th o ought he had a little upset tummy but NOTHING that would prepare us for this. We took him to a clinic and they told us it appeared to be a heart attack but he didn't even whimper. We are trying to figure out what we could a be done wrong. This s baby was so loved he slept under our pillows and push e d us out of the way. He was only 7 years old. Did we miss something? Are we to blame. |

YT 500 Club Member | First of all sorry for your lost. Yes dogs can have heart attacks. Did he have any symptoms of a bad heart in the past. Like coughing or problems breathing. My dog had a bad heart and and starting to faint at 8 was told it was seizures and his heart was fine but then by 12 told me oh he does have a bad heart and that is why he is fainting!! |

| My beautiful Maxie not.maize or what ever I wrote. I noticed that for some reason my post s a i'd maize, our gorgeous Yorkie was named Max. He deserves to have his name spelled correctly. Our house has a pall over it with our excruciating loss. It's beyond me how such a little dog can leave such an enormous hole in our hearts and our lives. Brigitte |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I am so very very sorry for your loss! You can ask for a necropsy/autopsy to be done to see what was the cause of death; an answer might help your heart to heal. RIP little one.
