sorry for your loss... a friend of mine from new jersey had 3 yorkies, one of them died suddenly very similar to what you described. She came home and opened the door for them to go out, as soon as her dolly came out to the deck door she collapsed on my friend's feet , she had time to take her to the vet as she has a vet around the corner from her house. Dolly had just had a check up and all was very fine, i dont know how old she was but not very old or too young either as we have being friends for a few years and she always had these dogs, anyways, the vet told her it was excitment that caused her heart attack, just sudden like that ... so it is the second time i hear of something like that... my friend finds the confort to know that she was well cared for and since she had just been at the vets for a check up it was nothing that could have been avoided. She has wild bunnies in her back yard and her yorkies love to chase them and get very excited about it, but that day "dolly" did not get to see the bunnies and collapsed at her feet . The vet mentioned that it could be excitment just to see her owner.... well, i hope by sharing this i give you some confort !!! my friend got another one, she could not stop thinking about her dolly... now she doesn't talk about it anymore.
take Care.
