| Silky or Yorkie?? what do you think? My baby Butters, I love her no matter what but last week I took her to a yorkie meet up and I could not help but notice that she was bigger then most of the yorkies and her coat wasn’t as soft as the others. It’s sad for me to even make the speculation that she might be a silky but I’m just don’t sure any more. Her paper work said she’s a yorkie. Please look at her photo and let me know what you think. Your opinion would be most appreciated. No matter what I love her dearly. Thanks! |

| Yep, I agree with browniesmom...A lot of yorkies are bigger And regardless of size, many have different types of coats. Not all yorkies have that silky coat, many have cottony coats and wirey coats, etc. Silky terriers are also supposed to have a very silky coat, but not all of them end up having it. Here's an excerpt from AKC's description of the coat of a Silky Terrier: Coat Straight, single, glossy, silky in texture. Color Blue and tan. The blue may be silver blue, pigeon blue or slate blue, the tan deep and rich. This is only part of what is stated, but you get the idea. Anyway, my point is Yorkies and Silky Terriers come in all shapes and sizes and all kinds of coat textures and colors

| Thanks! Thank you for the response! I really appreciate it. I was told by the breeder that my baby was going to be a full grown 7lb yorkie which I'm absolutely fine with but what would you say my puppy looks more like, just by looking at the photo I have, silky or yorkie? Thanks! |

| There is one breed of dog that is always getting confused with a Yorkie, and that is an Australian Terrier. They do look like Yorkies, but their coat does not grow like a Yorkies, and the coat is a bit more coarse, but they look Yorkie and have the same coloring. http://australianterrier.org/ http://australianterrierrescue.org/ |

| The picture is very small, but she looks like a yorkie to me. Do you have her papers?

Bella Boo & Diggy Too! Donating GS Member | My girlfriend has a 12 lb yorkie and both parents!!! Mom is 6 lbs. dad is 7 lbs and Ollie is a BEAST compared to his parents! He is hilarious! Just happens! No different than my Bellas 7 and 9 lb parents and she is 5 lbs. and shes actually chubby she could easily weight 3.5-4 according to vet...but well, Bella likes to eat lol and well I hate to say no....Vet said no diet yet bt if she gains anymore at all she is going to have to go on a diet. If your papers say Yorkie and size is the only thing making you go hmmmmmmm Id say you have a YORKIE!!

| Silky Hi, I have 2 silkies and I went to a yorkie get together in Chicago and they looked liked huge dogs compared to the little yorkies. I guess it depends on if you were around teacup yorkies or regular ones?? Sofia is 8.5 pounds and Chloe is 10.5 pounds. And the norm for a silky is 10 pounds. Chloe is much taller, and longer and their hair is a little different for the yorkies. But even between the 2 Sofia's is much softer. I think it is possible to have a big yorkie, I have heard it before. They say that you can tell by the shape of their heads( between a yorkie and a silky, you have to google it, but even that I can not tell cause agai my 2 silks are totally different in that way too!) |

| I also have a yorkie who is large, very large.....16.5 lbs. His papers say he is a yorkie, but I also sometimes think he has silky in him. You're not alone! |

Don't worry about the Meetup...I took Charlie and couldn't believe the different sizes and appearances of all of them.

| RE: Yorkie or Silky? My first Yorkie, Pasha, was over 8 lbs, and my current one, Bear, is 8 lbs+. They are both from the older English lines. Bear is a red leg Yorkie; reddish coloring on hid muzzle and legs, very short coat that will not grow long. The attached picture was taken last year and shows his coat as it normaly is. We had an Austrilian Terrier years ago, and the difference between them and Yorkies is very noticable. LT's coat was wiry and short, plus he weighted in at over 10 lbs. I've found that with dogs, the parents' size is really not a tru indicator of the adult size of the pups.

| Red Leg Yorkie? I never heard of this. One of my yorkie boys has deep russet colored legs--the rest of my yorkies are tannish. Though all 100% yorkies, my adults go from under 3 lbs to over 10 lbs. All yorkies are wonderful, no matter how small or large. They are all special. That is my opinion. Jackie |

| Yorkies come in all sizes and shapes. This doesn't necessarily mean it's not a Yorkie.

| I know how you feel. I went to a yorkie meet up and many of the people around me had smaller yorkies...average weight around 2-4 pounds. My yorkie is bigger at 6 pounds, and you can definitely see a size difference. Also, his coat is still wiry..but soon it should grow out and hopefully become nice and silky, as he is still a puppy. I'm sure you have a yorkie!!!
