| Lactose Intolerant and Gluten Free Foods? I recently found out that I was lactose intolerant, so I spent several hours hunting for foods that I could eat......that and finding foods that were gluten free, watching the sugar, sodium, blah,blah,blah....... Is there anyone here that is lactose intolerant...what do you buy, any good sites with information on it, recipes, etc. I found a list that had a few breads that you could eat (French, Italian, Jewish Rye (I think), etc).....and I found some soy cheese and of course milk (which tastes really sweet). Aurgh.......just so much stuff to go through!!! Also, anyone that is trying to do gluten free foods? Any help, ideas, support....all are welcome and much appreciated!

YT 2000 Club Member | My son has been on a gluten free, dairy free, soy protein free, fish, and all nut type diet. He is 12 now and has been on it sense he started to eat. Health food stores are wonderful places to get things from. We had to work with dieticians at first they gave us a list of foods that he could eat. also when he went off his prescription formulas at age 2, he was put on rice milk. |

| i am lactose intolerant, but i'm a bit confused as to why you are getting rid of gluten??? do you have siliac's disease as well? my dad has that.. he stays away from gluten. but being lactose intolerant i just cna't have milk. There are GREAT drops called Lacteeze (i think that is how you spell it) and you drop them into the milk carton, let it sit for 24 hours and it kills the lactose. the milk tastes normal to me (however i'm not sure i know what milk SHOULD taste like ) however to those who are used to milk they say it makes it taste a little sweet. they are pretty expensive but well worth it... i've just learned what i can and can't eat.. and if i eat it.. i pay for it. i've had a headache for the past two days that i'm prettty sure is milk related. i have milk in my tea every day and once every few months i'll have horrible headaches.. i think my system has just had enough, and i pay for it good luck and PM me if i can help at all! |

| I am lactose intolerant. I use Lactaid milk. When I am out and want a Latte, I get it with soy or rice milk. I really prefer the taste of rice milk, it is not chalky like soy milk can be. I really limit sour cream, cottage cheese and ice cream. I seem to tolerate Yogurt so I eat that and frozen yogurt. Yogurt can be yummy on cold cereal, and even hot oatmeal. Get the apple flavor and mix it with some cinnamon and put it on the hot oatmeal for a yummy treat. Hard cheese does not bother me at all. Be cautious of the chain ice cream stores. The frozen yogurt at Baskin Robbins bothers me, but the TCBY does not. I suspect TCBY might not be real dairy? Either that or Baskin Robbins is masquerading low or non fat ice cream for the yogurt. You will see what I mean when you start experimenting at these places! You might try Ranch dressing instead of sour cream on your potatoes. I think it is yummy. Can't think of any more hints right now. Oh, the best of all, you can buy Lactaid tablets. there are other brands but I like the Lactaid. Chew one with the first bite of dairy and you should not experience significant discomfort from eating the dairy. It contains the enzymes that our bodies lack to digest the dairy. Hope I have been of some help!

| I have celiac and am on a strict Gluten Free diet. Don't think there is much reason to go GF unless you have a celiac or RA. My sister is lactose intolerant and also uses pills (I think they are called Lactaid) whenever she eats dairy. Works well for her.

| Thanks! There are so many products that are lactose free now...like milk, cheese, etc. So that isn't too bad. AND I am still going to eat some in foods that are prepared and see how that works. Regarding, Gluten Free - there are so many symptoms that go along with gluten, and if you can just watch your intake of products with it in there, that helps greatly (skin, hair, intestines,etc)....I think it is more of a preferance for people to choose to watch this in their diets, unless you are celiac. My doctor said this was one thing to watch too, so I am doing it. It's just so time consuming to read labels.
