| Thanks for remembering. I am an EMT-B, not a Paramedic, though. Are you an EMT yet, or just going into schooling? If not, I'd recommend volunteering on your local rescue squad to get some experience. I couldn't imagine going to Paramedic school without having some prior rescue knowledge. Good luck!

| I have heard that it is extremely HARD!!! Can you work full time and go to paramedic school? Also if anyone has kids how hard is it to be a paramedic working 24 and being a mom?? I am on the waiting list for nursing and decided to go to paramedic during the wait (2 1/2 year wait) to be a life flight RN medic... just wanted to know how hard it would be and if it is a good idea. I am young.. have no kids so I thought HEY why not?

| ER nurse I am an ER nurse. At my hospital we have emts and paramedics that work in the ER. Quite a few are also going to nursing school. I work at a trauma center so they get to see a lot of trauma and get a lot of experince. I just thought It was an option to look into. We mostly work 12 hr shifts. 7a-7p. 7p-7a or 11a to 11 p. Some even start working as RN's in the ER after school. (nursing shortage) it is a great way to get some experience. I started as an emt in the ER myself and worked through nursing school. good luck

Do you know the difference between B & I? I don't! LOL I'm thinking...do you start IVs and intubate? We do basic first aid, use the AED, administer O2, can give Epi pens, and help with meds (i.e. nitro, inhalers, etc.) and the patient's glucometer. As for the answers to your questions, I don't have. But I do have to say this, I went through a WHOLE LOT when I went to EMT school (which was from January-May. I was going through severe depression from the break-up of my engagement, I got my Yorkie puppy (Baby) in November, I worked full time as a teacher, was a member on the rescue squad, AND was buying a house and moving in March. If I can do that, anyone can do anything! Good luck!

| What state are you in? I'm always wondering why Jersey doesn't have the EMT-I. Years ago (before I was an EMT) Jersey had an EMT-A (for advanced). But they did away with that.

| Well I know that an Intermed. can give about 7 more drugs (In Utah we still have to have a medic to supervise so why we learn them... I have no idea) and IV's, Intubate, and you learn how to run a "code" like which drugs to push and when to shock.. V-fib, V-tac- Bradycardia etc. We really focused on EKG rhythms. But other than that... there is not much of a dif. For us.. our medics do EVERYTHING on our calls the most we get to do is hook up the EKG and start an IV. They push all the drugs... Thanks for everyone's help and encouragement!! I really appreciate it!!

| Oklahoma....depending on which service you work determies what drugs you can push. One service I can give Nitro, D50, Narcan, Clonidine, ASA, Albuterol and oxygen. At another service I can give epipen, o2, nitro, and oxygen. Thank God for Protocol books on the truck....Oh when you're a paramedic some nursing schools let you bridge over to nursing |
