| Can I brag about my son? My son is very shy and sweet and doesn't have a mean bone in his body. He's been in Karate for almost a year and I've seen such a transformation! He went from having no confidence and not knowing his right from left to gaining confidence and becoming a lean mean karate machine! His instructors are so impressed with him they invited him to join the elite black belt club at the school. They think he's going to be a master martial arist! I'm so afraid of him being bullied at school but now I feel good knowing he'll be able to take care of himself. I know I would lose my mind if someone messes with my kids and we don't want crazy mama fighting his battles. I mean I already had a huge argument with his bus driver for raising his voice to him! Anyway karate is a wonderful self-esteem and confidence builder for people who have shy kids. It's not all about self-defense and I highly recommend it. A side note his school was recently named karate school of the year in the whole country and the owner of the school helped teach Chuck Norris! Here's a picture of his happy face and his mean don't mess with me face!

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Outstanding! The thing I like most about karate is that it teaches kids to control their aggressive emotions. They don't go out looking for fights, because they know they don't have to prove anything. At the same time, yes, you won't have to worry about defending him. Glad it's working out!

| I am the same way with my boys. I can already tell that mommy is going to be the one trying to fight all their battles from the beginning! I was also thinking about starting my oldest son in Karate here is a few months. He is four now. But I know that they have classes here for the little ones.

| That is wonderful. You must be so very proud of your son and he must be very proud of himself. I think all children need something that they do well and most importantly that THEY want to do. I see with my own 3 children there are so many parents who think that forcing their child to do something is in the childs best interest or that they should particpate in EVERYTHING so that they are active 24/7 as oppposed to doing what they really want to do (whether it is sports, music, a hobby etc) and excell in that. My daughter dances, is very good at it and loves it. She isn't involved in soccer or softball and I get alot of her friends parents ALWAYS (in a very demeaning way) asking why isn't DeborahAnne playing softball, why isn't she doing soccer, why isn't she playing basketball. The reason is simple SHE doesn't want to, she wants to dance and does so 4 days a week I support her decision 100% and will not force her to sign up for something that she doesn't want to do or have any interest in just for the sake of participating in as much as possible. Congrats to you and your son!!!

I asked my daugter if she wanted to do karate or dance and she said no she wanted to play soccer. So she'll play in the spring. I can't stand those parents who force their kids into sports or after school activities. I actually see it in karate school that some kids really don't want to be there but their parents are making them. I have no idea why. I would think they would get resentful.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | That is terrific. Yippee for him to discover.....hey, I AM good at this What a confidence booster to say the least. We never made our dd participate in any activity she didn't chose. Of course, sometimes her choices weren't what WE (actually her dad) wanted her to do, such as changing from playing softball (in which she excelled) to volleyball (good at that too, she does NOT have MY athletic ability)....but it's her decision. Tell your son Trace and I think he's a
