| Prayer Request for Avery First I hope I am posting this in the right area. If you all could say a small little prayer for my old boy Avery Cat it would be appreciated. Avery is my 14 (almost 15) year old Tuxedo Cat who I have had since he was 3 weeks old. The last year has been really rough on Mr Avery, his weight is like a roller coaster up and down. We have been through a battery of test, blood, urine you name it. The only thing we found was he has a slight heart murmur. I took Avery in to the Vet today for an ultra sound (for his heart) and they found something on his kidney. I guess when the Vet saw his heart was okay she decided to check some other areas. The ultra sound only showed some sort of a shadow of something at the top. When she showed it to me it appears the top of the kidney either has scar tissue or a tumor. We did more blood work today and she is going to refer us to a specialist at GVS (Georgia Vetrinary Specialist). She said we could do a biopsy of the kidney but there are a lot of things I need to consider before I go to those steps. Avery is not in pain, he is seems happy and fine but he is an old cat. I want to wait for the blood work tomorrow and see what that says. I am not sure I want to put him through surgery again. So many questions and decisions I have to make...my brain is racing. If you can say a small prayer for Avery it would be appreciated. I just want the strength to make the right choices and allow Avery to live his life pain free.

| Would you mind sharing what you did as far as care. My heart is telling me not to put him through surgery (if needed) but I am also feeling selfish, I don't want to let him go.

We took her to a specialist, who did an mri or sonogram, can't remember which...whichever he was clearly able to point out the mass on the pics, he explained that this was the cause of the weightloss...because of his age we decided not to do surgery because the chances were high that it was cancer and his quality of life diminished...regardless of the potential outcome the cons outweighed the pros, realistically he would only be around a few more years anyway...so why put him through the pain and suffering....we had him on a special diet and had him checked out regularly. Eventually he started to feel pain very demonstratively, so from diagnosis to humane euthanasia was 19 mos. Gigi was almost 18 when we let him go.

| Cheryl- I too have had to deal with this in the last two years. Two of my cats...my very first pets "on my own." Both were close to 17. One I had to make the decision to put down and the other one died in my arms. The decision was very difficult for but it sounds like you are a good mom to Avery and would do what is best for him, even if it was painful for you. Felix told me he was ready. The first vet visit I thought my old boy was not going to make it...I found him at home very sluggish. On the way there he perked up and was his lovey self. I had to learn how to give him fluids...I am so scared of needles and Felix was a trooper...the best first patient I could ever ask for. For three months twice a week he let me give him his fluids..he would just stand there. Then he started fighting it one night after I had a horrible time trying to get him to stay still I really looked at him and his quality of life..he didn't look happy and I knew he wasn't having the fun in life that my felix should have. I called the vet the next day and that weekend we went in for our last vet trip. The whole way to the vet felix just laid in my lap. In his way he let me know it was time..and while it was hard I have never regretted the decision.

| I have added little Mr. Avery to my prayer list for sure. I love Tuxedo cats - so elegant and smart looking.

| Sending prayers for Avery. We went through this same decision process with my son's 17 year old kitty Max last spring and summer. He had a tumor on one of his kidneys and we did a few months of treatments but our vet told us that surgery would not have given him any quality of life back. I know you love Avery and you will do what is best for him. I will keep you both in my prayers. I know it isn't easy.
