Donating YT 30K Club Member | 102 degrees here and some idiot leaves their dog in car. I went to Petsmart today and when I came out parked next to me is a black truck with a couple of windows partly down and a pomeranian barking at everyone that goes by. I saw a Vet Tech from Banfield sitting outside smoking so I went and told her. We went over to the car, we could have easily reached in and grabbed her and taken her. She was friendly and felt hot to touch. She kept running under the steering wheel probably to get out of the sun. I stayed with the pom while the tech went in to find owner. About 7 minutes later a different tech comes out with a lady. They go to the car and the lady puts a leash on her and takes her inside. The first vet tech was out finishing her break and I asked her what happened. She said the lady was at Banfield with another dog seeing the vet. What is wrong with people. It's 102 here! The tech told me they already had a puppy DOA today because the stupid owners took it on a bike ride and had in running next to the bikes. Are people really that stupid. There are excessive heat warnings everywhere. I was also amazed at how many people walked by the truck and looked but kept going. There was no way I was going anywhere until I knew that pom was safe. Or as safe as she can be with a stupid owner.

| Oh, my goodness! That poor little Pom probably was getting pretty hot as it doesn't take very much time for the heat in any vehicle, let alone a black one, to heat like an oven in hot sun. So glad she finally got the little thing before you all had to get it out of there to save it & have her probably spaz because you did!!! After all, "it's just a dog" which is what people so often say about how we treat them.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I don't know what your state laws are, but Ann (Wylie's Mom) told me that in AZ we can call 911 when this happens. I say let the police decide if she's been negligent. I don't know if what you did is enough to keep her from doing this again. Good for you for doing something! We’ve even had some police dogs die from being left in the car too long.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | The vet tech said at first they couldn't find her and they were going to call the police. So I think we can call 911. I would have if the vet tech had not gone in to find the owner.

Zachary's Mom Donating Member | Living in Houston, I know only too well about heat. On Facebook, I have shared numerous things about the danger of leaving pets and people in a car this time of the year. I just can't believe people can be so stupid. Louise |

♥Love My 3 Furrbutts♥ Donating Member | Here we call 911...a couple of weeks ago a couple from Sarnia stopped at Vaughn Mills shopping center and left their dog in the car, after attending Woofstock. Someone called 911...the fire and police attended, but got there too late to save the dog! The couple were charged with animal cruelty! AND the very next day same thing at Sherway Gardens Shopping Center, the pom or chi (cant remember which) survived, and the owner was fined. I dont get it what is wrong with people?! Its 104f here!!! Geez, come on already! SMH!

| I think the appropriate thing to do would be to lock the owner in the car and take the dog into the air conditioned store. Clearly a case where dog napping would be justified. I don't think a fine is enough. All that does is feed the city's pockets. They should lose the dog and the possibility of ever owning one again.

| Patti, your story reminds me of another nonsensical on from last year where a woman took her Yorkie to the vet for treatment and then went out shopping and left the dog in the sweltering hot car. Then she called the police herself bawling that the dog died. I can't fathom what these people are thinking when they leave their dogs in hot cars. They take the time to vet their dogs and do that.

| That poor dog! I'm so glad you did something. It is so frustrating how irresponsible people are.

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | I have to say, cars are bad enough, bloody roasting ovens in this heat we have now. But also, leaving your dog, leashed up outside with no shade or water, in this heat? Criminal! I will be calling my trainer this evening. We have a 9am training session booked, but it is forecasted to be like 35C with humidity bringing it to 42C... I can't do the conversion right now but that is hot. My car's A/C is on the blink, and I don't even want to risk driving with the pups in the car. I think we will go to the lake instead.:-)
