| Has anyone had a bad reaction to a cortisone shot? Has anyone had a bad reaction to a cortisone shot? My daughter 17 had ACL replacement surgery in may 2007. In Jan. 2008 she had orthoscopic surgery to remove some built up scar tissue that was preventing her from bending her leg all the way. Her original ACL surgery scar was very sensitive, you couldn't even touch it even if the blankets touched it, it hurt. So the doctor gave her a cortisone shot under her scar while he was doing the orthoscopic surgery. He said it would lesson the sensitivity. Well, she had a reaction to the cortisone and it slowly ate all the fat just under the knee. It actually looked like someone took an ice cream scoop and scooped out her skin. She had a pretty deep indentation. This past Nov. she had major surgery. Part of her calf was taken out and put into that depression. She had a skin graft put over it because the original skin was so damaged. Now she has a 8"scar going down the side of her shin and a 3" tear dropped shape on the top by her knee where the skin graft was put. She was in the hospital for 1 week. I never left her side in the hospital. She was in so much discomfort. She's only 17 and has an unsightly scar going down the front of her leg. She has to have another surgery to fix the tear drop and just make it one straight line going down her leg. That's next year. Just to mention she's a soccer player and has an invitation to play with a college team. I hope her dream becomes a reality. COCO PEBBLES TRIXIE |

| re: bad reaction to cortisone shot First, I am so sorry your daughter has had to go through all of this pain and I do hope her dream does become a reality and she makes the college team. As to an answer to your question though about the bad reaction to a cortisone shot....that's what I'm going through right now, only it is my elbow. I was diagnosed with "tennis elbow" about a year and a half ago and that is when I had the shot. For a while it took the pain away and then the skin started to lose its pigment and then sink in like your daughter's knee. Long story short, I can no longer straighten my arm, the muscles around my elbow have atrophied so badly that the slightest bump sends me reeling! I was scheduled for surgery next month to have the muscles repaired and the now protruding elbow bone shaved down but have postponed it until early May because I am told I will not be able to move my elbow for 3 weeks and it is my right arm and I want to wait until the warmer weather so there are less clothes to deal with...and also because I am scared to death!....So yes, I would say this was a bad reaction to the cortisone shot.....

| Your poor daughter has sure been through tough times with her knee. I'm so sorry. I've had cortisone shots and never had a reaction like that, and have never heard of anyone else having that. I hope and pray that she recovers from all of this. Gosh...Soccer...do the doctors even think she should play soccer after all of this? Best wishes to you and your daughter!

| She is one determined little booger. She is very strong willed. The doctor just released her to full activity with no restrictions yesterday. It only has been 8 weeks since surgery. She is doing great. As far as soccer goes she has been running on the tread mill at physical therapy. She said it doesn't hurt. I'm just so worried about her getting kicked when she plays. It's so hard because my son who is 19 plays college soccer and we go to all of his games. She sees him play and she really misses it. She wants to play! She wants to be a gym teacher and a coach. I hope and pray she can still do it, as she was pretty good. She hasn't played in a while. She made the H.S. Varsity team this fall but had to drop off the team because her knee would swell so bad. So far her knee is not swelling anymore but her ankle swells if she is on it too long. The Dr. says it's normal. She doesn't have too much feeling on her whole shin and the top of her foot. We are hoping that comes back.
