Has anyone had a bad reaction to a cortisone shot?
Has anyone had a bad reaction to a cortisone shot? My daughter 17 had ACL replacement surgery in may 2007. In Jan. 2008 she had orthoscopic surgery to remove some built up scar tissue that was preventing her from bending her leg all the way. Her original ACL surgery scar was very sensitive, you couldn't even touch it even if the blankets touched it, it hurt. So the doctor gave her a cortisone shot under her scar while he was doing the orthoscopic surgery. He said it would lesson the sensitivity. Well, she had a reaction to the cortisone and it slowly ate all the fat just under the knee. It actually looked like someone took an ice cream scoop and scooped out her skin. She had a pretty deep indentation. This past Nov. she had major surgery. Part of her calf was taken out and put into that depression. She had a skin graft put over it because the original skin was so damaged. Now she has a 8"scar going down the side of her shin and a 3" tear dropped shape on the top by her knee where the skin graft was put. She was in the hospital for 1 week. I never left her side in the hospital. She was in so much discomfort. She's only 17 and has an unsightly scar going down the front of her leg. She has to have another surgery to fix the tear drop and just make it one straight line going down her leg. That's next year. Just to mention she's a soccer player and has an invitation to play with a college team. I hope her dream becomes a reality.
