YT 2000 Club Member | what desktop pc to get we are looking at getting our family a new computer for Christmas this year and are clueless on what to be looking for.We were looking at the HP computers, I liked the HP AMD Phenom model # m9417 c b, but like I said very clueless at what we should get!! We went to Best Buy, Staples, Sam's Club, you name the store if they have computers, we have been their. Bestbuy does not have bundle packages and the dude was very unhelpful to us and kept saying that we could upgrade to this or that.I sware the guy knew that sence we really did not know what we were dooing, he could take us for a ride!! We thank him for his help and said we would have to look into what was really needed,So we went to the other stores to see what they have and hoped to get better help. The other places that have the bundle packs had the same kind of computers, but because it was a bundle, it actually was less expencive than all the stuff Best buy sells sepretly. We are looking at one that would be good at games as we do have the four boy's ( ages 15 , 14, 12 and 11) but we also use the computer ourselves for other things than games. Any HELP would be nice as I have stated WE are very clueless. Thanks!!

YT 2000 Club Member | Thanks, we are looking and keeping the options open. Do you have MAC? Witch one would you recommend and what do you like about them? At first we were going to get a Dell computer, but my sister has had nothing but trouble with hers. Then my husbands best friend Shaun also has problems with his, and he said not to waist our time and money on them. My husband asked people at work what one to go with and a lot of people like the HP kind. 2 have MAC's and I need to check them out Like I said we are clueless and are open to any ideas on what to look for in a computer! Mind you we have been looking at computers for the past 3 months now and still have no clue as to what we should get lol.

| Ya I have a macbook- so it's a lap top but their desktops are great! I think Mac is the superior computer- their Operating System is great- so great than Microsoft has tried to copy it when they made Vista. And honestly- all the Mac/Microsoft commercials are right. My mom just got a new computer with Vista and I hate it already It asks your permission for everything- it's getting to be a pain. Mac has a built in anti-virus system that is superb. It is SO user friendly and while the change from a PC to a Mac can be overwhelming- now that i have on i'll never own a PC again. |

| Hi We have MAC, and love them, they are really easy to use. Although, I have a friend who bought one, and because he has been using PC for so long and all his other computers in his home are PC he doesn't like them so much. I have found that a MAC, is less hassle, unless you need to transfer your files over, its plug in and go! I am not that computer literate so for me it is great everything is so easy. I would suggest that if you do want to see a MAC, go to a Mac store, or someone who specializes in MAC, because I have found that at the Big Box stores, the people do not have the knowledge of them and in many cases they are more money. I know of people who have had MAC's for years and years and still have them Either way it is your choice buy whatever you feel comfortable with shop around and purchase from whom ever, gives you the best info and is the most helpful, and not just trying to make a sale! | I also vote Apple If you go the apple store they will have everything for you to look and at play with. I would get their apple care warranty because if anything breaks they will bend over backwards to get it fixed. They will also transfer your old files for free and I think you even get a lesson or two. If you are looking for a desktop you would want to look at the iMacs. They are all built in so there is no tower. Apple - iMac The one thing you want to find out is if the games they want to play are available for Mac OSX. Whatever brand you get, just don't get the cheapest one. You'll have more problems with an entry level model than one with more RAM, a better video card, a faster processor, etc. Also don't worry so much about a bundle. Check TigerDirect.com - Computers, Computer Parts, Computer Components & Electronics for deals on monitors and printers. The bundled printer isn't always the best. I'd actually recommend a cheap laser printer for a family with a bunch of kids printing who knows what. We have a B&W Brother laser (it was like $60) we have beat up on that thing (printing flyers, marketing material in the 1000's) and it's still alive. You could always get a cheap ink jet if you do need to do color. I get my photos printed at one of those Kodak kiosks because 100 pics @ 20c a print is still cheaper than a $30 ink cartridge. Good luck!!!

| I have been disappointed with Gateway, Compaq and Sony, so-so with HP and totally in love with my Dell computers. Dell has some great deals, and you can customize many of them so you get what you want, and nothing you don't.

| I have had a gateway, a dell, an HP and an iMac. My gateway was our very first computer that we got when my 15 yo dd was in Kindergarten. It was a gem. My second gateway was garbage. My first Dell-again a dinosaur now- has been a great computer but it is dying a slow death now. My mother has purchased a dell since mine and it was garbage. Our HP-garbage-it is several years old now though. I made the switch to a MAC about a year ago and while there was a bit of a learning curve at first (not much though) I love it! I know this isn't much help but I just thought I would throw my experience out there. It seems to me like quality has gone down drastically in the pc's I mentioned above. The quality in any product I have bought from Apple has been top notch. I am sure there is probably somebody whose experience is different though....maybe. I don't foresee me ever buying another windows machine--I am on the prowl for a new macbook though

| I vote Mac too. I've had a Mac since 1989 and never ever had even one problem with any of them (4). I have a five year old iBook laptop, still running like a charm. I need to upgrade the OS and add some memory, but I expect it to keep going for quite some time. Last year my hubby got me an iMac desktop. This thing is SWEET! We are getting my granddaughter a Mac for Christmas - she has a PC laptop, but it is broken more than not - or has a virus that her dad has to fix. I understand that Macs cost more, but IMHO, they are waaaaay worth it!
