| My doggie neighbor I know there is nothing I can do, but thought I'd bring this up anyway because it really bothers me. There was a new house built three doors away from me and the people moved in approximately 1 year ago, a little less. They have a dog that looks to be a Chi-mix but he's very tiny, about 8 lbs. I have never seen the dog when it is not chained outside. It has it's own doghouse and every morning I see the man of the house take out a bowl with what is probably water and/or food. He barks a lot, but he's not too much of a barker considering he's outside all the time. WHY???? Why does ANYONE want to own a dog that isn't part of the family? I can't see anyone benefiting from having this little guy. I have never seen him played with, taken in, or taken for a walk. He does, however, have protection from sun and rain and fresh food and water, so I know there's nothing anyone can do. Still, it breaks my heart!! Needed to vent. PS, the owners are a little strange and there is a rumor going around about them that I don't know is true. If it's true, I wouldn't want to tangle with them.

| When I take Kalina out at 6AM he's still out there. I tried to edit to add that I didn't remember seeing him last winter when they first moved in, but he was there all summer long until now and he's always outside.

| I dont agree with leaving dogs outside all the time either. Even if they are big dogs

| By law they are providing the minimum upkeep. He most likely barks because no on ever pays any attention to him. No pet should be restricted to outdoors only. Maybe you can kindly ask them if they really do intend on keeping the dog, and if they don't help to rehome it.

| That's horrible!!! but if they have a reputation that is intimidating, it might be better to stay out of it...At least here in Los Angeles, I don't mess with anyone I feel that might ever come back and harm my fur-babies...With five, they are my ultimate weakness.

| Oh it makes you so mad. Long time ago, I had the same kind of neighbors, treated their little one worse, we would secretly take water & food & love to the little guy, but I didn't go the extra step. I so wish I had of, even if it ment taking him to the humane shelter. I could of done that and hummmm don't know what happened to the little fellow. I will regret that forever....

| Well atleast you know he's getting fresh food and water, and has adequate shelter. When we rescued our boxer she was so infested with heartworms and fleas. That not only did we pay them the 400 they asked for her we had 600 in doctor bills to get her back in good health. People are just so weird. I can't figure them out.

| They probably don't want her or him in the house since it is new.. you know how people get when something changes in their lives. new baby, new home with new carpet...I used to be anal about my house when we had new hardwood floors put in that I would make everyone take shoes of and tiptoe..then I realized that life is too short to worry about the little things... I would say that they don't have time to train him so they just assume ignore him.. In my town there is rarely ever any crime against strangers..lots of domestics but I would feel safe going to the house and asking if I could take the dog because i felt bad for it..they may be relieved and hand him over. |

| I am also confused about the dogs that people just stick in the backyard and ignore. Why have a dog? I guess some people use the big ones for security. It is just strange to get a dog and then ignore it. Strange and sad. Put them on a mailing list for shelters. Maybe they will get the hint if they start getting a lot of pamphlets in their mail for dog shelters.

| That is so sad!! I have a neighbor and they are a wonderful family but they leave their westie outside all day long on a leash tied to a laundry line and when he is inside he is tied to the door and stays in the kitchen. It makes me so sad -- i always spend time petting him when we are out walking. There excuse is that they are sooooo busy |

| So what is the good of having a dog if you only chain it up somewhere? I love spending all my time with Kalina. The one and only thing I DREAD about going to Brittania in June is that I'll be away from her for 14 days!! I can't stand the thought of it but at least I know my husband and children will be doting on her. Last night I walked by the house with the Chihuahua and the doghouse was moved farther back in the yard, behind a tree, and I didn't hear a peep from the dog if he was there. I am wondering if he was given away or something. Maybe they put him in the basement because I think they don't want an animal on the new rugs like someone else suggested. I'm going to keep looking for him and see if he's around still. Oh, and this is the same woman who asked me if Kalina was a cat!
