| Introducing My Boys and My New Puppy Hi Guys, I'm a long time lurker and yorkie lover who finally decided to register and show all of you my babies and hopefully get some advice too. I have alot of experience with Yorkshire Terriers having grown up raising them (My mother used to breed Yorkies and now takes in rescues) but I'm stumped with what to do with my new little girl. I have 2 adult males, Tucker and Bailey, who will be 8 yrs old this summer. I call them "My Boys". Tucker is my big boy at 9 lbs and Bailey is my baby boy at 4.5 lbs. He was a rescue and in terrible shape when I found him with most of his hair falling out and numerous physical problems but he's beautiful now. In my opinion anyway We now have a new addition to the family. Meet Lily, also called Lily-bug. She is ten weeks old but only weighs 0.8 oz That's right, ounces. She was in a situation where she was taken from her mother too early and wasn't being given enough to eat and was extremely malnourished. I have had her for two weeks but she's not gaining enough weight. She is the pickiest eater I've ever dealt with and often has to be fed with a syringe. We feed her 2 cc's every two hours and give her nutri-cal ever hour. Does anyone have any experience with a puppy this small? I have tried every type of dog food there is and even tried the recipe posted on here with the half and half, rice cereal, Karo, and baby food. She just isn't interested in food. I implore anyone who wants a tiny Yorkie to really think about the health of these poor babies. In addition to malnourishment, Lily also has an open fontanel which will never completely close. At this time she is not showing signs of hydrocephalus but it is a possibility with her small size. Her head is too big for her body and trembles from the effort of trying to keep her head up. One of the greatest dangers she faces is being stepped on because she is just too small. I am really hoping to get her up to at least 2 lbs but at this point I don't know how I'm going to do it. Anyone's thoughts on how I can put some weight on her would be appreciated. I have just absolutely fallen in love with her and don't want to lose her. Thanks for reading my long post! (The first picture is of My Boys, the second and last picture is Lily at 8 weeks and the third one is her at 10 weeks) Last edited by drawlins27; 03-08-2007 at 05:34 PM. |

| Your boys are gorgeous. I have no advice on what to do with your tiny girl. I just want to wish you the best of luck. I would suggest putting a bell on her to help to keep from stepping on her. I know how quickly they can get under your feet. Good luck and Bless your kind heart for helping out all of those babies. |

| Hi and Welcome to YT!! So very glad you joined us. I first want to say that all of your babies are beautiful. I can clearly see why you are so in love with little Lilly, she is just too precious for words!! And clearly, you are a wonderful and dedicated mommy to her. I don't have experience with this, but want to suggest you post this in the breeder section, alot of experienced breeders in there that will surely have some more ideas for you. I know a few have had some tiny babies, and had to hand feed. Again, welcome to our community and I wish the best with your little tiny baby girl.

| Welcome and congratulations! Your babies are really precious! It breaks my heart when I hear such a sad story... Lily is adorable and I hope she is going to make it. Maybe you could carry her in a baby sling? The body warmth would do her good for sure. Mitzi (10 years old) was a very picky eater too and sometimes I had to beg each morsel into her. She had a lot of problems with arthritis, gas and allergies. About 4 weeks ago we switched her to raw meat (beef, lamb, turkey, chicken, veal, all ground) eggs and some raw bones to chew on. She LOVES it, the bowl is licked clean without me doing anything, the allergies are gone, her arthiritis is much better and no gas anymore. Even our Vet is surprised how well she is doing with this food (we tried everything before and don't ask me how much highly expensive food she didn't like went to the local shelter... ). I really don't know if that would be something for your tiny baby but it is the natural thing for a dog. BTW, if Lily has gas try 'beano' drops. They help great and fast. The Vet says they are o.k. Mitzi sends Yorkie kisses and I wish you and your babies the very best! |
