| Daisy Back in May we had to board our yorkie Daisy at a kennel here on Long Island while were out of town for a few days. We have used the kennel for our cocker spaniels for 7 years and felt we knew the owner pretty well. While we were away Daisy was put with another large dog and was mauled to death. It was such a tragedy and although we had her cremated I have yet to bury her as we had planned. The kennel was not only careless but when a local newstation went with questions they denied it even happened. The owner was the one who had admitted to us that he had made a big mistake. He then told my husband that he would reimburse the cost of dog as well as the cremation (how very big of him). We couldn't even think about it at that time but now 2 months later we are still waiting. His attorney wants to offer us 1/4 of what we paid for her as she is "property" and apparently after loving and taking care of our pets (in this case for three years) they depreciate. It is not even a question of the money it is the fact that they were careless and even lied about when it happened. They also didn't even call to tell us - it was only when we showed up to pick the dogs up that they told us AFTER charging us boarding and grooming for all of the dogs!! Our whole family is devastated and I feel that they have to be held accountable in some way and would appreciate any and all suggestions. |

| What a sad, sick & pathetic soul is that owner of the kennel you chose to board your beloved pets with. My heart is just aching for what you've had to endure...it's just inhumane what they've proposed! Hugs

| I would have never considered myself to be an "animal lover" until Daisy. She was an amazing dog, full of energy and sooo smart. I also said I would never let a dog sleep with me but...when my husband worked nights she was my TV buddy. I will never forget her. I appreciate all of the kind words... I was shocked the first few days and then mad but now I am furious and disgusted that the owner of the kennel denied that anything had even happened. I have been back twice and both times he has told me that he told his attorney to do as he requested but I don't believe this from a man who lied publicly about it happening in the first place. I am giving it till the end of the month and if nothing happens I am getting together a group of friends and holding up huge signs about his negligence on the road to his kennel. There are only a few houses on the road and most people going down it would be going to the one of the kennels there. Anyone I deal with vets, groomers, supplies etc. I am telling and making sure they know to tell their clients. The woman who did the new story did tell me that the Department of Agriculture regulates kennels and I am going to see what can be done with that as well...I am open to ideas if anyone can think of anything else. |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | i'm so sorry about Daisy. that should never have happened and the kennel owner is completely accountable. If i were you i'd get a lawyer and go after their asses. Also i'd call the news again and let them know that the case still isn't settled. Do you get Help me Howard on WPIX in Long Island? I would write to him. he reports on lots of cases where poor owners are screwed over and since your story involves a horrible tragedy that should never have happened they might be more likely to help. Help Me Howard Blog ? WPIX-TV

| Where as the law does treat animals as property there is also gross negligence involved in which additional compensation can be awarded. I would take the SOB to court. How in the world could he leave a small dog in the same cage with a big dog. I would speak to an attorney. I live in NJ and was a paralegal for many years. It's a shame but animals are treated as property however like I said there is gross negligence involved and additonal compensation should be awarded for the negligence. This was not an accident it was his gross negligence that caused the death. Plain and simple. Elaine |

| How completely devastating. I am so saddened for your loss of your baby Daisy. These people are unethical and despicable. The following is something I suggest you do. It is not just the loss of "property" (as their lawyer refers to it) but also their negligence and your emotional distress. Look for a good "tort" attorney. To call your angel "property" makes my stomach turn. I would not want to think what I would have done to the owners. If it were me I would try to fight hard for the honor of the puppy. Not for the money but just to make sure this never happens to another puppy. Again, you have my deepest sympathies. |

| Wags & tails kennel middle island ny Wags & Tails is the name of the kennel. The claim also to be be breeders of champion dogs. The initial new story ran on our local News 12 station. I know that many people saw it as I have had nearly everyone we know comment on it and have spoken to people at our vet and groomers. We were talking about Help me Howard just the other day and will probably try that next. It might not be right but I want them publically shamed and held accountable. It was something that could have easily been avoided and pet owners should know that the 24 Hour loving care that is promised in both of their websites is not an accurate accessment of the type of care given. We did check with a couple of different attornies and apparently in NY there is no "pain or suffering" allowed. I wonder how many people would actually use kennels if they knew that kennels have very LITTLE responsibility. This is why we are planning some picketing...if they don't have to pay in court - they should at least have their business impacted~ |

| I'm so very sorry for your loss!!! What a tragic thing to happen. This angers and saddens me for the owners carelessness and then denial! I would contact many local news stations about this and make it very public! Word of mouth is VERY strong also. May your baby RIP! Also, welcome to YT!

| I had just posted this paragraph on the thread about Aggie ... "After wanting a yorkie for over 35 yrs, my yorkie ended up adopting me. My daughter and her husband stayed with us for a short time and their 2 yr old , 3 lb Gizmo and I just clicked. My daughter left him with me saying we were made for each other. I loved this dog passionately for the next five years. Two years ago, we took a cruise with my daughter and so had to leave Gizzy with a kennel. I visited them all and left them with one that agreed to keep Gizzy and my German Shepard Rashi together, knowing that Rashi would protect his little best friend. When we returned from the cruise, we learned that they had let another dog get to my beloved baby and he was killed. They claimed that Rashi was "unresponsive" and did nothing to keep the other dog from killing Gizzy. LIARS!!! I HATE THESE PEOPLE !! They never even told us they were sorry." I wanted to tell you that after visiting a lawyer I was told that I could do nothing except go to small claims court as my baby was just "property". I was told that I couldn't do anything to them to hurt their business. That hasn't stopped me from telling everyone I meet about them and warning them not to take their dogs there. When they found out that I was telling people, they called and left a message that they would take everything we had and bury us ! I will still tell EVERYONE that they KILLED my baby. I am so sorry for the loss of your Daisy. I know how you feel. |
