YorkieTalk Newbie! | HELP!! Breeder in Delhi, IA: Sands Enterprises Hello! I did a search for this breeder on a few different search engines and on this forum and did not come up with anything. Sands Enterprises I've been looking for an 8-week old female Yorkie for a long time now. And finally today I found one in my price range. I'll have to drive 2.5 hours away (I'm near Chicago), but I don't care at all about that. I've never owned a dog before so of course I've never had to deal with breeders and I don't know much more than what I've read on here to know if this breeder is okay or not. There's only a couple things, and maybe I'm just TOO cautious and I'm worrying too much...but there's a couple things about this breeder that worry me. 1) Their website. I know dog breeders aren't all web designers, but the overall quality of this site is pretty bad. I guess I just expect a breeder to be very professional so I just assume their website would reflect that. And 2) I called and spoke with the breeder tonight, and besides her very un-friendly monotone voice (that's probably not a big deal either, but it really turned me off and also seemed unprofessional). The first thing I asked her was if she had any Yorkie pups still available and she said "You have to look at my website and if any of the dogs do not say SOLD then they are still available". Her saying that worried me too. It worries me because I know that if I were a breeder I would be taking care of all the pups daily, and if I were doing that I would know exactly how many I had for sale and which ones were already sold or 'pending'. So to me, if she doesn't know off hand how many she has that are not sold, maybe she is not spending much time caring for them??? Like I said, maybe I'm just being a worry wart. But I want to be safe, especially with the distance I will be driving. So...has anyone dealt with or even heard of this breeder before? Is there another way I can check into this breeder? Any help, any advise, or comments are GREATLY appreciated. I was planning on going first thing in the morning, but I'm going to wait until this weekend now in hope that I'll get some help from you all. Thanks so much! -Jen

YorkieTalk Newbie! | Update!! Okay...I've got an update now. I was super lucky today to find someone in my LOCAL newspaper who has an 8 week old female. 4 of them actually!! One is sold, so I now have 3 to choose from. It's a little more than I can afford, but she went down $50 for me : ) So I'm going tomorrow after work to pick out my new baby! This woman is NOT a breeder, she said that the puppies were "unplanned/surprise". She had both the mom and dad at her place, they both looked very healthy. She said she's getting them all their shots tomorrow and she'll have there AKC papers in a few days also. So.... Hopefully these puppies are all healthy cause I'm almost 100% I'll be getting her tomorrow evening. If anyone has any advise as to what kind of questions I should ask the owner or help on WHICH puppy of the litter I should choose. I'd appreciate it!! I'm going to search the web and this site for now though. -Jen

| My mom lives in Iowa about 40 minutes from Delhi my mom and sister both have purchased yorkies from her and neither of them have had any problems with them. I at one time was going to purchase a pup from her however I couldnot get to Iowa in time and she had another lady interested that she ended up selling pup to..... I couldnot get to Iowa for a month (you snooze and loose) I had alot of lengthy conversaions with the lady at Sands she was very nice very knowledgeble and all pups are well socialized my mom and sister would buy from her again. Sorry your experience was not a good one you probably caught her in the middle of her life... Before you buy any pup though unless you don't care about registration papers make sure lady has papers to give you for if you don't get them before you get pup you probably won't get them.... Alot of people on here can tell you horror stories. Welcome to YT!!!!!! Greetings from Oklahoma!!!

These are a couple of questions to ask: Do you have a health guarantee? What do you guarantee for? How long does the guarantee last? Are the parents/pups AKC registered? Have the parents been tested for liver shunts, legge perthes, luxating patellas, over/under bites, collapsing trachea? These are important questions to ask!!! You want a healthy puppy and a breeder that will back her puppies up when health problems arise. If she does not know what any of these health issue are or has no guarantee, I would not buy a puppy from her. Best of luck!!

| I live in Iowa...I am not familiar with this particular breeder. I did notice that her site hadn't been updated since September, and that she had "Chorkies" for sale...IMO they should be bred for the betterment of the breed and not mix-breeds intentionally. I'm glad you found someone locally! Can't wait to see pictures when you do adopt a furbaby!

| I hope you've finally found the baby of your dreams. I can't wait to see pictures!! If the lady has a littler of pups doesn't that make her backyard breeder?? Just asking!! If she didn't want pups her adults should've been fixed!! I hope everything works out for you... Good-Luck...:heart s6:

| Delhi Iowa Breeder Sands Enterprises I know this thread is years old, but wanted to reply because I know and have a yorkie from this breeder. First of all, she is a BREEDER. she does this for money. She is a quality breeder, using only registered animals and breeding for size and health. She takes every precaution to ensure quality. With that being said, she isn't much of a people person. she isn't much of a web page developer. But she knows her puppies and how to create healthy happy puppies. She is a one woman show here and her children do most of the socializing. 8 years ago, we got a yorkie puppy from her. Sophia is a healthy and happy 8 year old now and we love her to death! I would not hesitate to get another puppy from Diane should we ever want another! You can rest assured that your puppies will come from registered and healthy lines and have all papers required and ready for you to register your puppies. |
