| To register or not...that is the question? I'm curious about something and maybe someone can help me out.....I got Brandi as a gift, her parents belong to my son's best friend. Their daddy has papers on both of them, but never AKC registered them. I offered to register his two dogs and the litter Brandi came from (since he had given me Brandi).....but he never gave me the papers. I'm planning on spaying Brandi. She is my baby, my pet, the love of my life, and honestly I don't care if she's AKC registered or not. I love her no matter what. Does it matter if she's not registered? |

| Unless you plan to breed or show, it doesn't matter one bit. In fact it's a waste of money. |

| I don't plan on doing anything but growing old with her......kind of a shame cause she's absolutely beautiful.......but she filled a hole in my heart and that's all that really matters to me |

| I registered my two *spayed* Yorkies just so I could get the AKC companion animal recovery tags. It isn't even needed since they have a tag with their name and phone#. I don't see a need to register really. |

| I don't see the need to do it. My girls are both spayed and I haven't got a clue what I did with all those papers. I never cared

| If the mother and father were never registered before mating, I am not even sure you can get the litter registered. That would be a question to the AKC direct. But, even if it is possible, I think it would be a lot more toruble than it would be worth, especially since you do not seem to be getting cooperation from the mother and father's owner. It could even be that he did not get a registration application one one or both. So, many "purebreds" sold with the promise of papers to come but never materialize.

| the owner is my son's friend........they've been friends since they were 8 years old.....it's not that he's not being cooperative....he knows I'm not breeding or showing her.....I have already called the AKC and they had told me what to do......that I needed to register the mother and father first than the litter......honestly I don't care if she's registered.....I just wanted to know if there was a benefit to it really... |

| Both of mine are registered, although don't know why I did it. I don't show, and not breeding etiher of them. Mine are just wonderful companions for me. Registering them, don't know why I did it, I suppose its because I knew I could. Maybe its a "status" thing, dunno. Now I look back and think, its kinda like buying a BMW, and never driving it, lol. |

| no it doesn't matter but i would do it just the same as any kind of paper trail is easier to prove that a dog belongs to you espicaly with microchipping

| I like to register my dogs because I think of that certificate as their birth certificate. I just like to have it in there records. I don't breed them or show them but I just like to have the certificate. But it is not necessary, it doesn't make them better dogs....lol |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Did you know that the list for the most popular breed is made from AKC list of those breeds registered? Not that this is important, but I found it interesting. I'm planning on registering Joey because I want to support the AKC; I believe in the work they are doing, and I like the permanent lost and found option they offer.
