| Large Yorkie? How big can a full breed Yorkie get? I have seen pics and heard of 20+ lb Yorkies but I always assumed they were mixed. Is it possible to get a larger Yorkie as compared to the average 8-12 lb toys? If so, where can I find one??? My husband and I are looking into getting one, well more so me as far as the breed. But he is the macho type and doesn't want ours to have bows etc and doesn't want it to be too small. He has seen pictures of larger Yorkies and has somewhat agreed if I can find one for him to see in person. I am located in South Texas and need help towards the right direction on this one. Please! |

| Standard size is 4-7lbs. But larger Yorkies are very common. You may consider adopting a rescue, that's what I did! Try www.petfinder.com , that is where I found my baby, he weighs 10lbs.

| Howdie, neighbor! I live in Brownsville! My Bobby is about 12 pounds, 9 months old. I'm going to suggest something that the majority here won't agree with but, oh well. I bought Bobby at Petland. I had decided to get a Yorkie and had just started looking when I happened into Petland to buy toys and a new brush for my other dogs. I was glancing at the puppies and a saleswoman asked me what type of puppy I wanted. I muttered something about intending to look for a Yorkie and she said, "Oh. Well, we only have one Yorkie and he's too big and too old. No one wants him." At that remark, I had to see this poor pup. Because he was bigger and he'd been there for more than 3 months, I only paid $300 for him. They considered it an adoption. Bobby is a WONDERFUL boy! He's very healthy, very smart and I like the fact that he's bigger! I don't believe he came from a puppy mill because there was a breeder listed and I Googled her. I found her name on the web as a legitimate breeder of Yorkies and Papillons. Apparently, she shows her dogs, too. Anyhoo, I was in Petland over the weekend to pick up a bag of food and I saw another big Yorkie in the same predicament. She was in the very last cage and she was bigger than Bobby was! I didn't inquire but I'd be willing to bet that someone could get her under the same arrangement. My concern is for the dogs who desperately need homes and in these situations, the pet store is losing money so I don't feel the least bit guilty. They have no recourse but to find a home for the older, bigger pups so they have to keep lowering the price until someone will take the dog. If they have to do that often, they won't sell that breed anymore. It's just a suggestion. I'm really pleased at how it worked out for Bobby and me. He got a great home and I got a bigger Yorkie pup who had all of his shots and had been through the worst of the teething! He was really ready for serious potty-training, too, and did great. Julie |

| Yes, I've seen some REALLY cute larger yorkies on petfinder. Another thought, if you like the look of yorkshire terriers, is a Silky Terrier....they are very similar, but larger.

| Been looking... I have looked on petfinder and most of the one's I find on there they do not recommend children or they are about a 10hr drive away. We were hoping to get a baby so we could bring it up knowing the kids. I will look into Petland, thanks for the info. I don't see why anyone would disagree with adopting an animal from a pet store? It's not the Yorkie's fault he is there. I can understand if you are looking for a registered dog etc but just for a pet I would adopt from anywhere. Thanks for all of the replies and I will keep on researching. The scams are ridiculous...I have received several emails thanks to the posted info I have been able to catch them and not be fooled so far! |

| i dont think it will be too hard b/c most people are looking for a smaller yorkie and are surprised when they reach 8lbs. both of mine are 8lbs but i was told they would only be 5-6lbs. so you really never know. also.....mine of course was said not to be around children and both of mine love children more than adults.....i think if you children are considerate, you will be fine
