Howdie, neighbor! I live in Brownsville! My Bobby is about 12 pounds, 9 months old. I'm going to suggest something that the majority here won't agree with but, oh well.

I bought Bobby at Petland. I had decided to get a Yorkie and had just started looking when I happened into Petland to buy toys and a new brush for my other dogs. I was glancing at the puppies and a saleswoman asked me what type of puppy I wanted. I muttered something about intending to look for a Yorkie and she said, "Oh. Well, we only have one Yorkie and he's too big and too old. No one wants him." At that remark, I had to see this poor pup.

Because he was bigger and he'd been there for more than 3 months, I only paid $300 for him. They considered it an adoption. Bobby is a WONDERFUL boy! He's very healthy, very smart and I like the fact that he's bigger! I don't believe he came from a puppy mill because there was a breeder listed and I Googled her. I found her name on the web as a legitimate breeder of Yorkies and Papillons. Apparently, she shows her dogs, too.

Anyhoo, I was in Petland over the weekend to pick up a bag of food and I saw another big Yorkie in the same predicament. She was in the very last cage and she was bigger than Bobby was! I didn't inquire but I'd be willing to bet that someone could get her under the same arrangement.

My concern is for the dogs who desperately need homes and in these situations, the pet store is losing money so I don't feel the least bit guilty. They have no recourse but to find a home for the older, bigger pups so they have to keep lowering the price until someone will take the dog. If they have to do that often, they won't sell that breed anymore.

It's just a suggestion. I'm really pleased at how it worked out for Bobby and me. He got a great home and I got a bigger Yorkie pup who had all of his shots and had been through the worst of the teething! He was really ready for serious potty-training, too, and did great.
