| Changing names I don't really like the yorkies name that I might be getting, I mean it fits him, but I dont really care for it. Would it be OK to change a 5mo. old dogs name? I'm sure he'll get used to another name in no time, I've called my other dogs other things but there names and they caught on real quick. But what about his vet papers and registration, does anyone know if this is OK. Or should I just keep it the same? |

| I think you should name him what you are comfortable with. You'll be calling that name for many years to come! I've heard that the way to change the name is at first call him by both. Let's say his name is Joe and you want Ralph. For the first few days you call him JoeRalph every time you call him. Then you can just drop the Joe and they will recognize Ralph. I've never actually done it for a dog, but it worked for our cat. He was Sugar and I changed it to Smokey.

| We changed Tripp's name. He was a rescue though and hadn't been called that very long. His name was Monty, and we wanted it to match Tucker so we never said Monty. He forgot really quickly, but if he hears you say that for some reason he starts cocking his head lol. He now comes and responds to Tripp though, so it can work. Go with what you are comfortable with!

My old dog was named Misty, and I always have made up nicknames for them. After she was like 7 I started calling her Babes. Its not that I didnt like Misty, I just started calling her Babes. Right away she answered to that right away. Im just wondering pretty much about the papers for the dog you know...how will I go about that? | |

| I changed a 3 year old's name without any problem. I was amazed at how quickly she responded. |

| We changed our yorkies name from Brutus to Sampson, he was still a pup and I don't think he even knew the difference. When our Sophie had her pups in April I named them all and now the new mom and dad have changed their names.....All I really cared about was that the home they went to was loving and caring.....and they will be well taken care of in the future. Otherwise I would have kept all three pups.
