| Car sick Everytime I take my girls for a ride in the car, they throw up. My boy does not. Is this a girl thing or coincidence? Is there anything I can do to stop this? Medicine? |

| I am dealing with this motion sickness too! My little 6 mo old gets really violently sick within a block of putting her in the car. Since we leave out every weekend to go to our farm she must endure a 2 hr trip on Fridays and again on Sundays. The Vet told me to use childrens Benedryl (any flavor) and give her 1/2 tsp. an hour before the trip. No food the day of travel. Said we could work it up to 2 1/2 tsp. if needed, but to start with the lowest dose and slowly increase. Our little girl is 5.5 lbs and we have found that the 1 tsp. works for her. The Vet said that benedryl has a anti anxioty (sp?) med in it. She has been able to make the trip without all that sickness! Vet also said there were medications I could use but I would really not like to DRUG her for two trips in 3 days..just seems like to much meds. I am taking her for small trips during the week. It was suggested I drive to a fast food place and order something I could give her a treat with (hamburger patty piece). The idea was to make it fun with treat rewards....I am hoping she outgrows this and keeping my fingers crossed. All our other dogs ride fine..never had a dog that reacted so bad to being in a car!!! UCK! I feel so sorry for her. Give the Benedryl a try...its working for us.

| My boy Nikko has the same problem so I don't think it is a gender problem. He throws up every time we take him to my mom's house (a 45 minute drive). My question is does the benedryl make them drowsy? I don't want to knock him out and be mopey when we get to mom's. He loves going to grandma's and gets so happy when we arrive. Its just the trip there that makes him sick.

| Can they see out the window? Princess didn't like car rides for the longest time, then I got her a car seat where she can see out the window, she loves to go for rides now. Also, try short rides at first, making them longer each time. Good luck to you.

| daisy gets car sick alot too. It varies though. Some times she'll get sick on the 10 minute ride to get the boys at school...2 months ago we took a 3 hour car ride and she was fine. And she doesn't get sick traveling in the RV at all...weird!

| They Can Grow Out Of It! My Bunny Used to get car sick.. I learn not to hit the brakes so much.. I talked to my vet about it, when she 1st started doing it and he said try to take her in the car as often as you can and she could grow out of it. I did and THANK GOD she grew out of it. I hated having her on my lap, when she tossed her cookies, it made me want to toss mine ICKY |

| I have the same problem with my two boys. The vet advised me to give 1/2 dramamine one hour before the car trip. I haven't done it yet, just wondering if anyone else has tried this? I really hate to give medicine if I can avoid it.

| Willy also gets car sick. I try not to feed him within 4-5 hours of leaving. I also find that on the highway he is fine, but get on twisty back roads or in town he doesn't do well. And he just turned 7yrs old so I doubt he is going to outgrow it now. I just keep lots of old bath towels handy in the car and try to have him throw up on them, then I can shake them out & toss into the wash. Des |
