| Need Advise On Cutting Hair?? Its been a while since ive posted here, but anyway I need clarification in regards to cutting my Morkie's hair, I have never cut his hair since he was born (August 19. 2015). So I was wondering if I should or is it required for me to cut his puppy hair, because everytime I comb his hair now more and more chunks start to come off revealing newer hair at the bottom of course which is also slightly different in color. This along with his hair starting to get tangled/matted up, and if I do cut it, how short should I make it? Also, how long does it take for the hair to grow back? Thanks!! | Depending on your priorities and budget, decide whether a groomer is right for you. IF you decide to cut hair yourself, there is a learning curve... it's greatly reduced by watching lots of those youtube videos, there's using clippers and there is using the fingers then cutting with scissors methods ect and so much more. Every haircut I've given, I have to use multiple methods, been a while since watching the videos but they should show all of that. Hair is hair, it grows back.. the dogs never completely like it until it's over. LOL The length is completely your choice, I go shorter so I don't have to clip as often.... I think it's the 3/8" guard is the shortest I will use now to avoid razor burn on their skin. I think minor razor burn occurred the last time I used 1/4". From there, after the clippers, I try to bring the rest, the parts the clippers couldn't do, legs, arm pits, toes, neck... into shape with scissors.... I shoot for the puppy cut... longer tail and head hair, shorter torso and legs hair. |

| Hi and welcome back.Your baby is adorable. you can give him a puppy clip, that's what I keep my Cody in, I call it a crew hair cut lol. Baby hair is soft and does matt easy. It's hard to say how fast it will grow back as each dog like humans is different, but, it will grow back lol, you will have to see how long it takes. With Cody I don't know what size blade is used, he goes to the groomer but if you're willing to do a trial and error you can start with a blade that will keep his hair say an inch long, see how you like that look, if you want it shorter go down one size. For the summer Cody is shaved down but I have them leave hair on his face and ears, his hair goes back fast in 4 weeks. From your avitar your baby looks like a yorkie with yorkie coloring. you can google yorkie puppy cut see if you will like it short. I LOVE the puppy cut. The dogs look cute, it's no work to maintain, and baths no matts, no tangles. What did you name you lil boy.

| I really believe that all puppies should be combed and brushed daily even if they do not appear to need it. The daily combing and brushing when they are young prepares them for the necessary grooming they will need as adults, especially puppies that will have long hair as an adult. Even if you intend to keep your baby's hair short as an adult daily combing and brushing will be necessary to cut down on shedding and to keep the dog accustomed to being groomed. Early training can save you and your pup from having upsetting grooming experiences later on. It's up to you to decide if you want him to have long or short hair. Yorkies and Maltese both have long coats that need attending to. Shorter hair may cut down on grooming time but trimming will be necessary often. Having a good all natural shampoo and conditioner plus a spray conditioner will help keep the coat silky and easier to comb out. With a sulfate free natural shampoo you can bathe your dog as often as you need to without drying out the skin and coat and the natural ingredients actually help condition them. I have stainless steel 5" round tip scissors for trimming around the face and feet and 7" scissors for the body. I just do touch ups between groomer visits. Some people buy their own electric trimmers and do all their own grooming. You might want to watch some grooming videos to get ideas. I don't endorse many of the grooming videos on YouTube though. Some are pretty bad. YT used to have some videos that were good in the grooming thread but I don't know if they are still there. Good luck. There are multiple ways to style a Morkie coat. You can find pictures with an online search. |
