| One yorkie or two? Is it better to have 2 yorkies? We have a 1 year old yorkie girl that we adore, we have been thinking about getting another but not sure if we should wait a while longer. I wanted one from her same parents though because she is such a great dog with a great personality!!! We got her from a "back yard breeder" I had no idea at the time though what to look for and she was well taken care of and has been such a perfect pet. Would you get another puppy from the same owner knowing they aren't technically a breeder but that it is a good environment and not a puppy mill and you love the dog you already got from them? |

| You are describing our situation to the T. We got Max from what I later learned was definitely a BYB. Toni did some research but we were uninformed as to what we should have been looking for. After doing a lot of reading on this site I learned we should have stayed far away from this breeder. Having said that if you offered me a million dollars for Max I would not take it. He is my boy! Great personality, smart as a whip and mischievous as hell! As happens in life, things change and we were going to have to start to leave Max home alone during the day so we decided to get him a companion. We went back to the same breeder and got Sasha. Same parents - 8 months younger. I love her to death also but she is not the same as Max. Don't expect a clone just because they are from the same parents. Each one is unique just like human kids. But, IMO, 2 is definitely better than one because they will keep each other occupied and happy. M&S play together, tussle together, sleep together and lick my face until I can't breathe together! I say go for the 2nd pup and the sooner the better! is better than !

YT 500 Club Member | 2 I would like some advice also. Our little monster is 4 months. I would like another maybe when he's a year or so. This one has been a lot harder on training & everything. My 1st Baby wasn't hard at all. As for the "backyard" breeder, I did this with my 1st Yorkie. He was the cutest, loveable, laid back, so easy to train little boy. My boy now I bought from a breeder which has been in business for 25 years. This one is diffentley a challenge. Love him bunches. If you're happy with the breeder, go for it. |

Same goes for the all important issue of health: one pup may turn out healthy, but another may not. This is true of any breeder's pups, but you have to weigh the risks in choosing the breeder.

As long as you know that the pup from the same breeder may have a totally different personality, I think you'll be fine managing expectations. As far as whether to buy from this breeder - really, it's up to you. If the puppies are well taken care of, socialized properly, loved, nurtured...I don't see how you could beat yourself up about buying from them again. I would have a much different opinion if it was a puppy mill or similar....that's not something any of us should endeavor to enable. The age of your current pup, btw, is probably a nice age to get another one bc your current pup still has some of that puppy energy going on, most likely.

| I have two yorkies puppies, but mine are only 2 months apart. We lost our older dog last June and our other dog wasn't eating and she was acting depressed. We thought if we got a puppy it would help her. It didn't She didn't have the will or energy at 13 to interact or play with an energetic yorkie puppy. I felt bad for Duncan (the puppy) because all he wanted to do was play. So we decided to get another yorkie puppy (Little Miss Elliot) for him to play with. It was the best thing we could have done. I love having the two of them. They eat, play, tussle, and sleep together. If you find one, you have found the other one. Of course, they look like Mutt and Jeff as Duncan is a 'teapot' yorkie at 10 lbs. and Elliot is a small yorkie at barely 4 lbs. If I were you, I would get another puppy as soon as possible, while your dog is young, almost a puppy himself. If you were happy with your breeder, I would go back and get another puppy from them as long as their puppies are well taken care of, loved and socialized well. Don't bring home the puppy until it is 12 weeks old so that the mother can finish socializing the puppy. I think having two yorkies are great. The saying I have seen on the internet is right; Yorkies are a lot like potato chips, you can't just have one.

| So is girl/girl, boy/boy, or girl/boy a better mix or does it matter? Also did you bring your current dog with you to interact with the new puppy? |

| We have a boy/girl and everything is fine. I have heard girl/girl may not be the best but maybe someone else can speak on that. We took Max with us when we went to pick up Sasha. We had these fantasies of him being reunited with his mother and just running around in circles with each other having so much fun. We brought Max in the house and set him down and that B**** attacked Max! We had to hold him the whole time we were there! She was being protective of her current litter.

| I have a boy/boy and they do great together!!!!! Cooper was 5 months old and Atticus was 3 months old!!! I was worried about having 2 boys but they have been really good together!!! And no we didn't take Cooper with us which worried me even more!!!!! But when we got home with Atticus Cooper didn't bark or hurt him, he just sniffed and loved him!!!! They have been doing really wel together!!! It all depends on when you feel like you are ready for a second one or third, or fifth hahah!!!! Good luck in your decision!!!

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | I'm getting a second puppy as well. Bonnie is 7 months old. I am getting a "sister" for her tomorrow who is just over 12 weeks old, so they will be about 4 months apart. I think it will be great for Bonnie. She loves playing with my daughter's Yorkie and my kitten. She also LOVES any other dog she can play with. I think you'll enjoy having the 2. |

| We waited too long to get the second, Ziva was already set in her ways and had a hard time adjusting to Abby. They are now 6 and 4 and still keep their eye on each other- jealously... |

YT 500 Club Member | Mine are 4 1/2 months apart. Izzy is older. Girl and boy. She's 6.3 lbs and Toby is 12 lbs at least. They have a ball together. Toby is selfish and he's huge so sometimes we have to calm them down cause all he ever wants to do is play and he gets a little rough throwing his weight around. We took izzy when we went to meet Toby for the first time. It still took them about a month and a half before she fully accepted him , but now they are best pals. She won't really play with any other dogs too much. Prefers her brother. But they aren't from the same litter. |

YT 500 Club Member | Oh and two is definitely better than 1 . Actually, I'm getting a third I've decided. So if I take one with me somewhere the other isn't left at home by themselves feeling left out. Three should be friggin riot. Lol |
