| Very nervous NEW Yorkie mom! Hi everyone. I am a new Yorkie mom to be. I am traveling by car to pick up my baby in Canada. It is estimated to be a 14 hour car trip one way. My husband was going to travel with me but now he can't because of work so I'm going alone. Can anyone give me advice as to how to travel alone with this little baby and what I have to watch out for? I just recently read that pups are susceptible to becoming hypoglycemic. I had no idea. I should have purchased a pup closer to home but I had recently (Oct 1) lost my rescued Yorkie due to cancer and I saw a picture of this pup's mom and she looked just like Sassy so I had to have a pup. I leave on Nov 4, 2014 so I am urgently seeking advice. Thanks |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi and welcome to YT and CONGRATS on your almost-new baby ! For your trip, I'd get some sort of a car seat/snoozer seat that you can either put on your middle console and/or in the passenger seat. Bring extra bedding/blankies to make it nice and cushy and secure for your little one. Being so young, most likely she will sleep most of the time. Bring along baby wipes, pee pads, towels, water/water bowl, treats, her regular food she is on now, Nutrical (!!), an empty syringe to force water if ever needed...and I can't think of what else....? Also, your breeder should know whether her puppies are prone to hypoglycemia, but even if they're not, still bring along the Nutrical.

| Can you use some of those hand heating packs (very carefully). Maybe wrap one inside a couple of socks before putting it under a blanket. Your new little one might just feel a little more comfy and warm. Hopefully, the little one will sleep most of the way. Safe travels, and congratulations! |

| Important message Welcome to YT....You better call Customs at whichever bridge your crossing, laws have changed recently and bringing pups into the states from Canada has changed drastically under these laws. I know the Peace Bridge, Whirlpool Bridge and Rainbow Bridge attendants are checking and enforcing. If this puppy is younger than 4 months you have an issue. https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/det...3D/suggested/1

By what Wylie's Mom meant by snoozer seats are seats like these: Snoozer Lookout 1 Dog Car Seat | 3 Sizes | 6+ Colors However, try to get the harnesses/leashes that you can attach to the seatbelt. It would be disastrous and unsafe for you, the driver, if your little one was loose in the car!!! NutriCal is a NECESSITY!!

| Here's a cheaper "Snoozer seat" that I found for $29.99: http://www.wag.com/dog/p/solvit-taga...7&kpid=QZK-015 Since it seems like you're leaving tomorrow, you might want to take a trip to the pet store to find one of these...they look super comfy and might make the experience for your pup easier. Try to socialize with your pup for about 15 minutes before taking him/her on the long road trip, it might put your pup more at ease. Try to make this car ride as pleasant and non-stressful as possible, to avoid having your pup develop a fear of the car.

| Also, maybe try bringing a couple of fun toys for her to play with if she wakes up (she most likely will be sleeping a lot during the car ride)--maybe a Kong toy to keep her interested for a while? If you're bringing baby wipes, I suggest you bring the sensitive kind.

On the way back, keep your pup's vaccination records and any other records the breeder gives you in a folder, just in case it is requested as you pass the border. Make sure that any toys you give your pup are durable, to avoid your pup choking without your knowledge. Don't forget to bring little plastic baggies to throw away/clean up your pup's poop/pee if you are having him/her use the bathroom outdoors (instead of a puppy pad)! Bring maybe 5-6 water bottles to use as the water source for your pup. Maybe even a couple of collapsible dishes? It might make it easier...? Sorry for the gigantic multitude of posts! I keep on thinking of new things after I press "Submit"!!

TG lynzy I just posted on her other thread same question. Ann can you send her an email to her private email address!! This lady really needs to know this information. There is no point in a 24 hr trip to Canada unless she can cross back with her pup 1 A grrrrrrr where was the breeders head? It has been highly disseminated here in Canada

I didn't realize there were two threads, I thought I was being moderated...yes I wonder what kind of breeder doesn't know this information. My bff has a cottage right over the bridge and didn't know about this (whoops) took her new pup and boom, turned back. No big deal for her cuz we live minutes from the Bridge but....OP doesn't.

YT Addict | You will have to have a shot record for crossing the state line. I almost lost my pomeranian dog. We crossed from us to canada. I didnt have shot records so went to turn around and they was gonna keep her. Finally got threw to them we were turning around. Plus you need a passport to cross over for yourself. |

YT 2000 Club Donating Member | LOL US to Canada line is not a state line! Although we are so used to each other, we don't have in our frontal brain, that we are crossing into a different country, crossing an international border
