| New Addition to the family I have been away for awhile mourning the loss of my beloved Brandi. She passed away Dec 01 2013 at the age of 13. She was diagnosed with liver shunts about a year ago which eventually she succumb too. I opted not to have surgery because the vet for her age it was too risky (plus her other issues, She was in liver failure) so I decided to manage her symptoms with medicine and a special diet. For the whole last year of life she show no signs of discomfort or pain. And then one day the symptoms reappeared. Within 3 weeks of the first signs, I made the painful decision to have her put to sleep. I was able to say my goodbyes to her and I have her ashes in my bedroom. I know that sometimes she visits me and I take comfort in knowing that one day we will be together again. She was the love of my life and I still cry just as if it happened today. The pain has subsided but it does come in waves. I am even starting to cry while typing this. Now on to some more up beat news. I recently saw a female yorkie on craigslist. I reluctantly emailed the owner and to make a long story short I have adopted a 2yr old female who is adorable. The woman took very good care of her she is beautifully groom and weighs about 6 lbs and very friendly and sociable. The verdict is still out on how her and my cat will get along but their first meeting went okay. She walked into my house like she own the place and made herself at home as if she has been living here for years. When I saw her on craigslist I was like this must be a scam but as it turned out it was real and the woman only lived about an hour away. She recently started school so she works full time, goes to school part time and has a 1 year old son. She said she tried and did everything she could think of keeping her but in the end she felt Duchess was spending to much time alone. Because of my yorkietalk profile and my facebook page which I sent her so she could see that I am a responsible owner she felt Duchess would have safe and loving home with me. She had many offers for her but I think it was my link to my yorkietalk profile that she decided to choose me. I paid the small (well more like medium small) rehoming fee and now I am the proud mama of a 2 yr old yorkie with a tail. Her tail isn't docked which I am trying to get use too. She is not spayed and her shots are due so I will make a vet appointment for this week. Oh and get this she has all of her teeth. My beloved Brandi had lost all of her teeth so now I have to get used to brushing her teeth. I am trying to get a picture but she won't keep still. She doesn't walk she runs everywhere and so full of energy. This was literally the only picture I could get from her because she has been on the go since we got home today. I will try to get some more as this one isn't the greatest. I still have to come up with a name. I don't really like the name Duchess any suggestions would be great. |

| Super cute! She looks a very happy baby. Your story relates a little to mine. I just brought home a precious 1 year baby girl to join my 8 month's. Enjoy her a lot!

| Thanks everyone. She is a spitfire...she only has two speeds stop and run. I am just not used to the energy. When I got Brandi when she was 7 she was already in poor health so her energy level was very low. This one here is non-stop. I will need to find some toys that can keep her occupied and I will be doing some training with her. She is very smart. When I pointed to her bed, she went right over to it. She didn't stay but she understood what I wanted her to do. We are working on the potty training. I will be crate training her because she likes to go when I am not looking. She slept in her ex pen last night without making a peep and she pretty much ignores the cat so we are off to a good start. She really is a cutie and her previous owner definitely took care of her. She is well groomed, is a nice healthy weight, clear eyes, well behaved (so far) and very friendly.I'm not a vet but her teeth are extremely white so I'm hoping she doesn't have bad teeth. All that will get checked out when she goes to her vet appointment. I think we are going to be good for each other. But I still find myself comparing her to Brandi and I hope in time I stop doing that because she is a completely different dog with a completely different personality. I am already in love with her so it can only get better. |

| So sorry for your loss... RIP Brandi. She'll be in your heart forever. Congratulations on your new adoption... She sounds like she'll be keeping you 'on your toes'! How exciting.... I think making comparisons is normal in the beginning. As long as you allow her to be herself and don't hold her differences against her, you'll both be fine.

| Sorry for the loss of your lil Brandie, and congrats on your new lil girl. Many years ago I had a poodle, she passed at age 13 y/o. Many ppl told me not to get another poodle because I would be comparing them. that never happened. The 2nd poodle's personality was so diff. from my first. Same with my yorkies, their personalities are so diff. My last girl had to be put down at age 16 y/o Oct. 2013. I adopted a 3 y/o boy 7 months ago, they are so diff. from each other, I have NEVER compared past pup with a currant one. I guess it's kinda normal to kinda compare the new one with a past one, I am sure this will pass as you learn more about this lil girl and see all her diff. personalities. Her walking into your home and being comfortable with her new surroundings, sounds to me like she was meant to be yours. As far as naming her, living with a pup and getting to know her was and personality a perfect name will pop into your head. I had 2 puppies that had no name for 3 months, I called them baby girl until I found the perfect name for them. You can google girls names, they have some very unique names, pick a few, see what fits her. Enjoy this new lil energetic girl and good luck in selecting her perfect name.

| I've been calling her Dutch (short for Duchess) until I can figure out a name for her. OMG she is so sweet and smart. I've been keeping her tied to me in the house until she is potty trained and she is already starting to get the hang of it. I take her to the potty pad and say potty...it takes her awhile but she will potty. She will potty outdoors and indoors. Her previous owner sent me a text wanting to know how she was doing. She said didn't realized how much her and her son would miss her. I told her she was more than welcome to call or text me now or in the future to see how she was doing. One thing I am definitely nipping in the bud right now is her reaction to my cat. That's the one thing I am not at all happy about. Whenever she looks like she is going in to attack mode, I put a stop to even before it get's started. If she disobeys my command, I put her in her expen. She has to learn to allow my cat to walk around freely without the fear of a surprise attack. I don't think it's a serious attack more like a playful attack. But my cat is older and I don't want her to feel that she is can no longer to walk freely around the house. Right now she walks very cautiously and I don't want her to have that anxiety. I am working on that but this little girl learns quickly so I am hoping to break her out of that real soon. |
