| Mad AT Vet Boy am I mad at my vet! Snoodles was sick and wouldn't eat and was shaking all over. When I took her out to potty, her bowel movement was just full of mucus! So, naturally, I came in took the sample, and called my vet! They said to make an appointment for Friday at 12. I told them how little she was--3#--and that little dogs can go down fast! Still couldn't get past the receptionist. If I wasn't worried, I wouldn't have called the vet. I feel that is why I have a vet!!!! I asked if I could take the sample in and have it looked at! No, they would get one when I brought her in! Dang! So, I took her off all food for 24 hours, then added just rice--1 Teaspoonful. Two hours later, added a little non fat chicken broth, and then in another 2 hours added rice and non-fat cottage cheese. She perked right up! Had an intestional upset, I guess! So, Friday, I canceled the vet. The receptionist said are you sure? To which I answered YES! You wouldn't take her when she needed it, so why should I come in when she is feeling better? She said she might get worse over the week-end, and then I would have to pay an emergency bill. I told her if this happened, I would take her to another vet period! This makes me so mad, because if one has a sick dog and calls the vet, I feel they should be able to see them that same day. It could mean a big difference in the dog's health and recovery! Do any of you have this problem? Pat |

| Good for you! You told her! In Jersey we have 24 hour emergency vets. Do you have any by you?

Or at least convey your frustration to yours later on. For now can you fined and emergency number to call and get seen. The other choice is to just walk in the door pup in hand and get a little pushy with the vet you have now. When I call in a panic my vet sees me. I can even call her direct on her cell and have after hours. I can even email my vet and have twice today on training stuff. Joy |

| I would switch vets if I were you. Obviously, he's more concerned with other things than the priority of the health of his patients. You did the right thing!

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | I can understand how you feel....lucky we found a vet that doesn't make appointments but rather is first come first serve which works great for us because you never know when they are going to get sick and most of the time they need to be seen as soon as possible, not three days later. We also use a 24 hour vet that we use if we need someone after 5pm!!! I would defintely try and find another vet that will work with you better!!

Do any of you have this problem? Pat I agree. I called my vet during his Thanksgiving Dinner and he didn't mind one bit. Ceeby nearly died. Told me what to do and when I told him I was already doing all that, he said good and told me that if he wasn't better to call him back. I had come on and asked you guys what to do so I was already giving pedialyte and pepto. he seemed to be a little better late that night so I felt we could make it thru the night and off we went bright and early the next morning. |

| Maybe you should ask to talk to the vet personally just in case it was the receptionist that was making the mistake. If they still wouldn't have let you come in then I would definitly find another vet. My vet always has same day appts for emergency's in between the regular scheduled appts. We also have a 24 hour emergency vet hospital that we can use after hours!

Donating YT 14K Club Member | Find a different vet. I've NEVER had one tell me to wait till they could fit me in. I've always been able to get in the same day!

Donating YT 30K Club Member | I would change vets! My vet will always get Cali in in an emergency as they now how small she is. I also bought them a box of Fannie May candyfor the girls in the office and one for the vet.

| Wow, change vets for sure. I have never heard of a vet that does that! I don't even call my vet to bring in a stool sample, I just drop it off, and if there's something really wrong I won't even call to make an appointment, I just show up and they will see me (probably cuz my little ones are so small or maybe they just love them).

| I have had that type problem when Maddie is sick and needs to be seen, and either there are no openings or I can go and sit and pay extra for a "work in" appointment. I have found that if there is no opening, I ask to talk to the vet and if he isn't available at the time, I ask to have him call me. He is so nice and always says, bring her up. He doesn't charge me the extra charge for a "work in," just the regular appointment. I think that vet's should leave a few openings for sick dogs, so they can get in when they need to be seen. I have called my vet's office at 8 AM when they open and found that they are filled, so I know they don't keep any open slots!
