| Just curious...How much? How much do you all think a "good" yorkie should cost? My Yoshi was 650 and i thought that was a pretty decent price. but i saw some comments that made me think i disn't "pay enough" just wondering |

| I paid $700 for Gina, and couldn't be happier, she's in perfect health, and very smart. I think that the cost of a pet quality Yorkie depends on what part of the country you are from. Greed also plays a part in the price when you get them from a puppy mill, or a back yard breeder, although I think there is a scale for the byb, between the breeders and puppy mills. My breeder would fall under the BYB for a lot of people's point of view, but as far as I'm concerned she's a very good breeder, my only wish is that she kept the puppies and mom together for 12 weeks instead of 8, that's the only part I wasn't really happy with. I know some will attack my post, because of the very things that I pointed out, 8 weeks instead of 12, but I met the woman and her husband, and the mom, inside of their house, and I was impressed with them and the quality of Yorkies they are producing. Cheers Quad & Gina

| I think "enough" is an arbitrary number. If a breeder can afford to let the puppies go for $X and is able to reinvest that money into her/his breeding program (proper vetting, tools, knowledge as I'm sure some pay for classes or seminars, etc) and they don't skimp on any necessities needed to improve our beloved breed and break even, then $X is just the right amount. As for the actual monetary amount $X is has so many factors. Just look at the different values people pay for a neuter/spay. It depends on the area, the price of vet care, food, grooming.... All that varies per region.

YT 2000 Club Member | dog I will not pay a thousand dollars for a pet. My friend paid $3,000 for her silver poodle. Too much for me when there are dogs in shelters or need to be rehomed. Yorkies may cost a bit because you want to make sure they come to you without underlying problems. |

| The answer to this is going to be as diverse as the answer to "what is the best dog food." LOL!! There are really too many variables to consider...is the dog a rescue or from a breeder...male or female...AKC registered or not...Are you buying breeder rights....Are you buying pet quality or show quality...are you buying from a reputable breeder or are you buying from a BYB, puppy mill or pets store....are you buying a dog from parents who are champions and/or been health tested....what part of the country is the pup coming from...how old is the dog(puppy, young adult, senior??).... And the list could go on and on!! ~One thing people say is that "you buy the breeder, not the dog." If you got an AKC registered puppy from a reputable breeder who has champion bloodlines, who's health tested their dogs and has given you a health guarantee, than I think you got a steal!! Usually dogs like that go for over a grand...some are well over a grand. Those people put A LOT of money and time into showing and health testing those dogs and they aren't producing tons of puppies...so IMO, it's understandable why they command a higher price for their puppies. If you got the puppy from a rescue, than it seems a bit high as they usually go for $500 and under. "GOOD" is also a very broad term...one persons idea of a "good" yorkie or even a "good" breeder is going to be totally different from someone else!! I personally won't be paying anything over the cost of a rescue UNLESS I pay for a dog from a professional, responsible breeder. That's just me, but it has to do with ethics as much as it has to do with money. If I am paying a lot of money upfront for a dog, I want, to the best of my ability, make sure the dog is genetically sound so I am not paying out more money on the flip side. If I am going to get a dog that's been less than impeccably bred, that may be riddled with health problems, I might as well just adopt one for a lesser price and save the rest of my money to pay for vet bills on down the road. This is just the way I think and operate....Ultimately, if you are happy with your puppy and it appears to be healthy upon purchase, than you paid the RIGHT price, whatever the dollar amount may be. |

| I'd be willing to pay & believe $1000-2000 is reasonable and fair in my area for an AKC puppy from a good/reputable breeder w/ a health guarantee. Anything less than that around here seems to be CKC (the lesser one) or not registered at all and from sketchy breeders/mills. Anything over that usually comes from greeders and people who call their dogs teacups &/or designer just to make more money. That's all just my opinion & from my own experience though and there are of course exceptions to that.

| Oh and for the record, I paid $1,900 for Billi- that included her shipping from Texas. I'd pay it all over & over again, though I personally will not ship my next puppy.

| Thanks all. Yoshi came with ACK paperwork and as far as I can tell she is healthy and happy, well socialised when brought around children. So I'm really happy! |

| My Dallas was only $400, and he came with papers. Rory was in the same neighborhood (I think she was $450) but she didn't come with papers. I'm not planning on breeding them, so that wasn't important to me. They can be a LOT more expensive around here... I think I just got extremely lucky. But these are the perfect babies for me. I would be willing to spend a lot more because they're the best investment I've ever made. The kisses I get each day alone more than make up for any money spent on them. |

| I'm guessing by good yorkie you mean one from a reputable breeder because that's what I would think good would mean. I would say any where from $1,000 to $2,500. There are bad breeders who will also sell at this price but price is not what makes a yorkie a good yorkie. I would want a breeder who knows there lines decently far back to know if genetic illness run in them, I would also want the breeder to do any available health and genetic testing, the breeder would need to be keeping the puppies with there mom until 12 weeks, not breeding females under 5 pounds, be breeding dogs that are a great representation of the breed, and some one who is breeding to better the breed not just for the money. Most of the time good breeders even selling at that price don't break even.

| I got my Huey for free. Should I have paid more? I'm pretty happy with that. Is he the perfect dog for me? H*ll yes. Would I have paid more? For this dog? H*LL YES! Healthy? Yes. Backyard breeder? Yes, but a friend who happened to get very lucky with her only litter ever and gave them all (6) away. Would I do that again? Now that I am more educated, probably not. Next one will be from reputable breeder or rescue. Do I want to spend thousands on a dog? Heck no. Would I, to get the perfect pet? IDK? Maybe? If you love your furbaby and he/she is the perfect one for you, then you did not pay a penny more or less than you should have.

| In My area they can go for 800-3500. The price depends on how big they will get. It is sad. |
