| I think Gizmo is sensitive to chicken So yesterday I had gizmo eating the dry royal canine with a little water, then at about 5 pm when I gave him shredded chicken breast after his nutrical, his poo got runny again. I thought it was from the wet food from the vet, but it seemed pretty clear after the chicken breast, that seemed to be the cause. Is anyone else's yorkie sensitive to chicken ? |

| A dogs digestion is usually 12/16 hours for kibble. What time did he have the runny poo? It could have been “too much” different things in his system.. kibble, chicken, nutrical- all around the same time. Hard to say. When did you give Gizmo the wet food? Peanut doesn't do well on chicken based dry food, however he can tolerate a boiled chicken at any time. How did you cook the chicken? Was it cooked all the way? Is this the first time he has had boiled chicken? I would maybe let his tummy rest. Give him his kibble like you would normally do, and nutrical as needed. Make sure he is drinking lots of water today. I wouldn't rule him out as being sensitive to chicken just yet.

| I stopped the wet food night before last, after he had a runny poop, and just gave the moistened dry food all yesterday. I thought that might have been what caused his upset tummy. He had the boiled chicken breast for the last three days, just a little bit when he would have his nutrical . I didn't give him the chicken till around dinner time last night (our dinner time) his poop firmed up during the day yesterday, but after the chicken, it gor runny around 10 pm last night. I leave his kibble and water 24/7. He hasn't gone poop this morning yet, but he did eat the kibble well during the night and drank lots of water with no runny poo yet this morning. I will see how his next one goes. The vet had wanted him off the wet rx food within seven days because its super rich, so that's why I thought that was what caused it. He had no canned food at all yesterday and his poop had firmed back up, until I gave him the chicken again. His gums are nice and pink now instead of the stark white they were, when I rescued him last Thursday. So I think his blood sugar is good now, he also is super energetic now too. Should I continue the nutrical , since his blood sugar seems ok now? It was extremely low last Thursday when I got him, and he was going into a hypoglycemic coma within 20 mins of getting him and taking him to the vet. The first few days I gave him more nutrical and Caro syrup, but slowly cut down to 3 times a day of the nutrical and cut out the Caro syrup. Right now I'm not sure if I should continue the nutrical and the boiled chicken, as he is seeming to have a sensitive tummy . Should I maybe just try today to just keep him on the kibble and water to se how he does? It's hard to figure out exactly what to give him, but on the up side health wise he seems like a whole different puppy, than the one I picked up and rushed to the vet on Thursday. He's only almost 10 weeks old so I don't want to deprive him of something he really needs because he's doing so well now, other than the runny poop last night. He as a ton of energy and loves to play, but I limit his playtime to 15 mins and make him nap in between. I also am not giving him a huge space to run around in yet, so he doesn't burn to many calories. I have him in a playpen. |

| He sounds like he is doing wonderful from what he was. When does he eat, his kibble? Maybe take his nutrical down to 2 times a day instead of 3.. Maybe once in the morning and once at night..?? You know the signs of low blood sugar, so if you feel safe taking it down to 2 times then do so. It sounds like he will be ok, but if he misses a meal that is when things go downhill. The important thing is he eats. Even with a 6 year old ( 4 pounds) it’s so important- Peanut for some reason didn't eat his breakfast/ lunch, yesterday. Well he only ate a little.. hardly. When I got home he was in the corner shaking.. DH had gotten home before me and told me he wouldn't eat anything for him. So of course I got home from work and Peanut is the first thing I handle- before I eat, shower, anything! I was able to get him to eat his kibble mixed with a little shredded cheese and a tad of yogurt. Which since he has a sensitive tummy, he normally doesn't get these items. Within 10 mins he was back to his normal self! These babies can really stress you out LOL. Esp the little ones.. For today I would give him the kibble. I would wait to see on his next BM see what you are working with, and then go from there!! He is so lucky to have you as a Momma!!

| Thank you so much xoxo I'm waiting for his next poo to see how it looks. He does love his food so thankfully, he has no problem eating. He eats after every playtime with the kibble, and he also eats during the night. I will try that with the nutrical and leave out the chicken. Someone had said I needed to give him the chicken to get protein because of all the sugar in the nutrical, so that's why I was giving him the boiled chicken with it. I'm gonna try it without the chicken and only twice a day and see how that works :-) I love this forum, it has been so so helpful for me getting little Gizmo back to health. |

| So he had his first poop today, and after eating kibble since last night it has firmed up yay !!!! Ok I feel weird now getting excited over a poop lol. I did just add a baby spoonful of the wey food with his kibble as a little treat, and so he would eat more of it. I do think it was the chicken he had a problem with because his tummy was really gurgly after he ate it. Thanks again for more great advice. |

YT 1000 Club Member | Our guys can eat almost anything (not the prohibited stuff). It's usually we that overwhelm their systems, by feeding something strange or infrequently offered, to much at one time. So, moderation is the key for that. My guys gobble Chicken down like mad, but, they get it (the meat only) quite frequently.

That’s why I would still try, at one point to try boiled chicken again. Just try when Gizmo is older and doesn't have a lot of things going on. Boiled chicken has really helped Peanut many, many times. I’m glad he can tolerate it- and loves it!

| If your pup is eating regularly & well, he doesn't need nutri-cal. It can give the pups runs. My vet says if you give too much &/or long term use of that stuff can cause diabetes. It should only be used for emergency, if you suspect that your pup is having a hypoglycemic episode.

| Thanks Deanna...but I only know this bc Momo had a hypoglycemic attack when I 1st brought him home. I had to work the next day, so my mom was watching him. He was eating the kibble they gave me, but Mimi was finishing it, so my mom thought he was eating. The next morning, he was catatonic & non responsive, I almost lost him! If I had not rushed him to the vet b4 they opened (they took him in as emergency) he wouldn't be w/us right now. I used to give him nutri-cal religiously after that, every morning & night bc I was so afraid he might get another hypoglycemic attack. It was giving him the runs too, so we went to the vet. That's when he told me to not give it to him if he's eating well & about the diabetes. He's a widdle piggie, so I never had to give it to him again.

Yes I was wondering the same thing, whether he actually still needed the nutrical since his gums are nice and pink again, plus he is also very energetic, compared to how he was just flopped on his side completely out when I got him last Thursday. You would seriously not even believe its the same pup, he's doing amazing and I just want to keep him that way :-) thank you xoxo | |
